Ich bin ein Berliner

Post #1 by PredsFan77 » Sat Feb 11, 2017 8:45 pm

So Im going to Berlin next weekend. What should I do? Going to Wolfsburg on Friday and got a factory tour set up. Will be in Berlin ~3 days. Reichstag better to go to at a certain time of day?
Anything overrated/underrated?

Also looking at maybe stopping somewhere for two - three hours on the way back to Frankfurt. Anyone have any opinions on Dresden/Leipzig/Erfurt?

Walk along Friedrichstrasse. Along the wall. Then around to Berlin University.

Get as much beer and cider as you can.

My hotel is on FriedrichstraBe so that should be easy. Potsdam worth going to? Sanssouci Palace? Any museum better than the others?

I disliked much of Berlin, except for the women.

Unrelated to your stay but I just got back from Heidelberg and Walldorf for a work junket. Nice little area but you'll have more fun.

I share this sentiment, other than not really having known the women of Berlin.

I've driven through / by Wolfsburg a number of times to visit a client just north of there. The area was nice - lots of trees, pretty quiet, etc. - but it seems pretty isolated. Not much to do there other than work.

Berlin sucks? I've never been but had heard the opposite. Was on my short list of places to go.

Not sucks, per second, but I just didn't care for it very much. I don't really care about WW2 and the cold war very much, so that has an impact. Also, I was there almost 20 years ago and it was essentially just one big construction site at that point.

Other than going to the Heidelberg castle to stay awake after arriving on a red eye for the morning it was all business there. My favorite part was renting a manual car.

what did you do in Potsdam then? the gardens and town center? Thought the palace was the big selling point of the place.

The Palace is great. I did the gardens too. Great day trip if you rent a car. Half the highway between Berlin and Potsdam is no limit.

(Just watch out for the speed traps).

Potsdam is nice. The Soviet architecture goes great with the romantic style cathedral
