Quebec City in Aug

Post #1 by mayoradamwest » Sat Mar 04, 2017 11:35 am

Planning 2-3 days in QC.

Thinking airbnb, though if anyone can suggest a reasonable hotel in the old city I'm open minded.

Anywhere I have to go? It'll be august, booking now.

Wife and I are planning on going, staying in the old city. Particularly looking for restaurants where we can have good food and a lot of wine.

I saw Jay Onrait in a rabbit focused restaurant there a few years back. It was pretty good.

You can roam around the old city all you want, but I find staying in Basse Ville more convenient and affordable. Check out Le Dominion or Pur (if that still exists).

I like Café du clocher penché for French bistro/wine.

I'll have to look. He old city is a bit expensive, but... Still nice. Got a couple quotes for rooms with views that do look nice.

I think Craig is referring to the Lapin qui saute or something like that?

How are food and wine prices?

Lapin Sauté. If memory serves it wasn't that expensive, maybe 20 bucks or so a main. Gorgeous little patio and a fantastic heritage building, but that's true of most everywhere in the old city. I imagine you can find plenty of meals of a similar quality around there, but it's worth looking into if you like rabbit. I love rabbit.

Rabbit is good, and that place is on my list. Thanks. There are some really interesting hotels and airbnbs, seems like most are in historic buildings.

Patios with views in old places make for a good time in my book.

I went one time in March, it was cold as fuck. Ate and drank a ton be a use it was too cold to be outside. Stayed in a place just up from the US Consulate General.

Manoir Sur Le Cap. It's was okay, small, but kinda noisy and in an old hotel with gap under the door kinda way.

That was like a decade ago though.

It's my fav in Qc city. Haven't mentionned it because of the price. I never go there when I pay. But if you want great french cuisine with the lady (and don't mind the cost), I also recommend it.

MAW, if the price is daunting, I recommend going for lunch, then having a light dinner later.

Priorities Dog, you think it's easy for engineers to find a mate, who'll out earn them?

Your wife out earns you? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I got to find a wife to support my 30-something semi-retirement, like the banana and you.

Just booked a little 4 day vacation in a couple of weeks. Turns out if you go in the spring you can get king suites in the old city for like 110 a night.

I had to settle for a Queen to get the flights reasonably priced. I should have booked a week ago and it would have all worked out. Oh well.
