I think Keefe will do everything he can to have the Soo ready to roll, and I think their experience could win out - but that's going to depend on Dansk. I'd love to see Erie make it through though - better shopping on a roadie!

What did you think of the nominees for the major awards? Personally, I think it's ridiculous that Keefe was not one of the finalists for Coach of the Year. No coach did more with seemingly less, and got everything and more out of each of his players.

He should have for sure. I like what D.J. Smith did with Oshawa, people expected them to miss the playoffs, instead they won the East easily. Other than that, I think they were done properly. I don't like how the O goes with Most Outstanding Player instead of Most Valuable Player, it really changes the vote process. If it was MVP, it's Laughton's, since it's MOP, it's probably Brown. Kinda like Locke beating Perry in 05. Soo's goalie should get goalie of the year, period. He was awesome.

I also heard Fabbri is in for Guelph. That definitely changes my thinking and makes me lean toward Guelph. London also lost Brady Austin, so they're in some trouble and no backup goalie either if Patterson stumbles.

I think Laughton has a very good chance of taking the Outstanding Player. He's the type of player the OHL likes to promote, and without him, I'm not sure where Oshawa ends up in the standings this year. Failing that, Brown or Ritchie (although he's young, he's been a huge factor in the Petes' success so far).

As for coach, I think Sleepy Stan was nominated due to seniority. The team he had, along with the trades that were made, should have been good.

Outside of the stupidity by a couple of players, it was a great game.

God hates the Kingston Frontenacs. I feel badly for their fans.

Last time they won a playoff series was 98. There's already one 98 in the league with tons on the way next year lol. Kingston deserved to lose after blowing 3-0 in game six.

I watched the game. Gill is a terrible coach and D'agostini stood on his head. The Fronts were the better team, too bad they were so poorly coached. I kinda feel bad for those kids.

Not according to this fucked up league.

Coach of the Year / Matt Leyden Trophy Finalists:

Bob Boughner (Windsor Spitfires)
Stan Butler (North Bay Battalion)
Todd Gill (Kingston Frontenacs)
Kris Knoblauch (Erie Otters)
DJ Smith (Oshawa Generals)
Scott Walker (Guelph Storm)

Yes, the fronts returned to relevance under Gill, but that speaks for their on ice talent from many high picks, Gill has benefitted from have a good skill level on the fronts, he has no idea how to harness it though.

The removal of Mavety at GM is the biggest thing that turned the fronts around.

I agree with MP, Gill is an awful coach. The fact he's up for COTY is fucking insane. There's no way he should be, ever. Hey, I played in the NHL so I must know.....Gilmour is turning that place into a real country club.

That was a really good game - and it wasn't even Dansk in net for the Otters. Erie has just taken home ice away, so we'll see what happens tomorrow night. This series could be shorter than anyone anticipated.

And on another note, Flyers fans need your opinion in our NHL news thread - re: one of the Gennies.

Yes it is, Big D.

I can't blame a parent for wanting the kid to keep his options open. It's so difficult for a 16 year old kid to be forced to choose his path, especially with the NCAA's anal view of the CHL.

Sarnia has confirmed that they will take Jacob Chychrun first overall (the third time they've had a #1 overall pick in the last 10 years - brutal).

I'm hoping Kitchener takes Mascherin, or failing that, I like what I've heard about McLeod.

Yep, they just don't do anything with those players. I'm not positive, but I don't think Stamkos won a playoff series in the OHL.

Sting have only won, I think two playoff series in franchise history and I don't think neither were recently, despite the amount of good players that have gone through. But 1-20 there are good picks to be had in the draft. Almost every team gets a good player in the first round. Look at the Knights grabbing Marner at 20 last year.

Don't say that, D.

Besides, the Rangers will be looking for a dynamic scorer or two, and you know those guys have no place in New Jersey.

I'm happy to see Erie up 2-0 - I want them to take that series.

Yeah, the Petes are facing maybe multiple suspensions. Seymour and Spencer are looking at a couple. Smith might get one for Oshawa. It was close until Peterborough decided to go full retard. Petes are already missing Clarke and Maguire due to suspensions.

Guelph/London is going to be an absolute war. Didn't realize the Knights came back to tie before losing it late. Erie might wait to feast on the corpse of whichever is left standing.

Guelph stopped playing to win and starting playing not to lose. And of course, the Knights got their obligatory 5 on 3 when behind in a game. The best part of that game was that London got a PP, and Guelph scored 2 shorties on it. It was glorious.

ER 2 SSM 0
LDN 1 GUE 1

London was caught unawares by Guelph in game one, but they crushed them tonight. That series is just too hard to call.

The refs are horrendous, but I find it hard to believe that it's coincidence that every time they're down a goal, the other team gets at least one penalty with 3 minutes to go in the game. They're the Pittsburgh Penguins of the OHL. They get the benefit of the doubt 95% of the time.

That's rough but if he showed an intention of going to the US, unless he's a star player, teams will select someone else. Sounds like that's what happened.

Lizotte a slew foot on Justice Dundas, Laughton a butt end to Anthony Stefano.

Laughton was suspended last year too, but someone was telling me there's a "buy back" option where you can pay money to rescind the suspension? If I'm an owner, I give the league whatever they want to get Laughton back. It sounds like a bush league rule in my opinion and I hope it doesn't exist. Clarke is still out for another two games for P'Bo and Maguire is gone until game seven. I don't know what Laughton was thinking though, he's the player they can least afford to lose.

Certain suspensions can be bought back, but not all. A butt end is sketchy - there is no way to accidentally do it, so I'm not sure it's one of the possibles.

Hard to say. The league office doesn't work on the weekend (I know... it's ridiculous. Don't get me started.) so they would have taken their first look at it this morning. If it's not all over SportsCentre or Sportsnet, the chances of no suspension increase dramatically.

Wow. Ho-Sang gets 15 games for his push from behind that injured Zach Bell.

While it was an awful outcome, the push itself wasn't particularly malicious or dangerous - Bell went into the boards awkwardly though.

Ridiculous suspension.

Guelph comes from behind to beat the Knights 3-2, lead the series 2-1.

Oshawa defeats Peterborough 3-1 lead the series 3-0, only undefeated team in the playoffs

Barrie pulls their series within one with a 2-1 win and a 2-1 series deficit

And finally...................Erie sweeps aside Sault Ste. Marie in a stunner.

Very happy to see Erie take their series. Now if they can swing a home game on a weekend the next round, it'll be perfect. (Ideally, vs Guelph).

I watched a bit of the Guelph/London game last night. Apparently Domi dished out a brutal spear, but by the magic of Hunter, got called for a slashing minor.

Not surprised. Looking forward to him pulling that kind of bullshit on national TV at the Memorial Cup, then watching Dave Branch squirm to avoid the topic entirely.

I don't like the Knights chances tonight at the Sleeman Centre, that series probably wraps up too. I think that Erie/Guelph will be really interesting, and Oshawa v.s North Bay/Barrie might be easy for Oshawa because those two teams are beating each other up right now. That series is guaranteed to go six right now, and it's been a battle in all four games so far. Oshawa looks like a well oiled machine, and if the West ends up destroying each other, then there's an opportunity for a title here.

Knights are finished. Guelph wins the series 4-1. North Bay about to go up 3-2 on Barrie. Home team has won every game.
