Well it's now the off season. Congrats to MAW. Time to get down to brass tacks on any rule changes before I recreate the league.

So far we have:
1. Lotto standings based on pts/game
2. Limiting active green/black/yellow/blue/etc. flag players to two.
3. A general no tanking philosophy written into the rules.
4. Reducing the number of reserve player slots.
5. Going over roster limit during draft.

All of which will be voted on separately.

Is there anything else people want to see?

It would be nice to have the rules regarding roster size during the draft, and players dropped during the draft not eligible to be drafted written into the rules.

We enacted that last draft (as it was enforced upon me in like the 5th round). You need to open player slots in your 38+2 limit, in order to draft.

I know, but it should be in the rulebook. There was confusion during the draft.

Can't be picked until after the draft.

How about this:

- Have to have open slots in your 38+2 to draft.
- Can drop/trade, etc. Leading up to the draft
- Once draft starts, can't drop anymore but trades still open.
- Once your roster is filled during the draft, you're done unless you make a trade for more space and have picks to use.

Not sure if there's a way to make guys dropped after the draft starts to be ineligible for drafting. That's the sticky part for me.

I see it getting messy trying to determine who is currently available in the draft if guys can get dropped during the draft and then become immediately available in the draft. Also not a fan of possibly picking and then later a guy gets dropped into draft eligibility that I may have wanted to pick in place of somebody else.

There is also potential for people to make shady deals to drop a guy for somebody else to pick. Some of you fucks would definitely do that.[/quote]

I like the idea of having a semi-roster freeze (trades not included) leading up to the draft.

We did decide that having players dropped during the draft can't be eligible to be picked up. It made absolutely no sense, as a draft pool can't change in the middle of the draft. Not even the actual NHL would do something that stupid

If I'm reading correctly, you're suggesting freezing everyone's roster before the draft? I think it'd make sense, but I don't think there's a way to create that option on Fantrax. I think the last time we tried, it crashed the league...

What crashed the league was using the online draft.

This year you will need to clear roster space for the number of picks you intend to make prior to the start of the draft. You will be able to clear space during the draft via trades, but there will be NO dropping of any players during the draft and no exceeding the 38+2 roster limit.

Is the +2 limit for injured players?

That seems restrictive to me. Why not just let people go over the roster limit for a bit? We're really only taking about fringe prospects and the likes here.

While I agree, I was forced to trade away my picks last season mid draft.

So just change the rule -- make it a 50 maximum preset for the draft, and then change it to 38+2 at the start of the season. We don't want to focus too much on restrictions because it's just going to complicate things. At the very least, we should be able to pick as many as we can and then determine their worth before opening night.

Rules aren't just changed willy-nilly on the whim of the co-commissioner.... (at least not very often).

So put it to a poll with everything else.

In general, I think anything that punishes teams who try to build through drafting is bad. I'm not just saying that because I have lots of draft picks, honest.

I agree with this.

It allows everyone to draft without restriction and then extra players can then be moved to other teams in trade.

Well fuck me. I would have not dropped people the last 4 years if I had known that it didn't matter how many people were on my roster during the draft...

Pretty clear in the rules that you can only have 38 guys on your roster.

I personally like two slots as a max as it raises the difficulty level. But if people want to play with soft balls, I won't spend time arguing. Just think it encourages laziness and lack of ingenuity.

Four slots = Big government handouts. Welfare for fantasy gms.

Starting to format the draft thread, realized we have some issues to finalize. Namely:

GM's that didn't make the minimum GP's.

Maw - Short 19 D = Loss of 2nd
NJ - Short 23 D = Loss of 1st
Boozer - Short 33 D = Loss of 1st
Legend of Iron Fisting - Short 1 D = Loss of 5th
ice - Short 38 W and 9 D = Loss of 1st
Nazzy - Short 4 D = Loss of 5th

A) MAW doesn't have a 2nd.
B) Boozer & Legend gave up their teams.

For MAW, I suggest he can choose between giving up the next higher pick or his next two picks after the owed 2nd, or acquiring a 2nd to forfeit prior to the draft.

For the new GM's I'm inclined to not penalize the new guys for past GM's mistakes.

Let me know if any are opposed to these amendments and I finalize the draft thread.

Should be the next highest pick. No one wants those shitty 3rd and 4th rounders

Also, what should happen if one has to forfeit a 1st, but doesn't own one?
