I just checked the rule book, if you don't have a pick it goes to the following year. MAW's next 2nd isn't available till 2020...hardly seems a punishment.

We need to fix that.

They're a garbage GM, for starters.

As there are loose rules in place, we'll have to stick to those for last season.

Next year, I propose to change them to the following:

If you forfeit a pick due to minimum GP not being met, and you do not own a pick of that round by the start of the draft. You forfeit your next pick higher pick from the preceding round(s). If it is a 1st forfeited, you forfeit your highest pick, plus your next available 1st in following years.

Anyone have a problem with that change for thus coming season?

I think the main problem with this rule - and I am not saying this just to be difficult or anything - is that most GMs that cause dereliction are those that don't care (or don't care enough). So even though, in theory, this rule punishes them it also hurts the league's parity and indirectly punishes any new potential GM who takes over a derelict team.

I think the question we should ask is: does this rule provide a deterrent for dereliction? I am not convinced. Maybe the punishment should be lighter, not heavier.

If you derelict your team, your punishment is you get the boot. New GM's don't get penalized.

They do get penalized down the line because they inherit a bad team made worse by the penalties.

Penalties are waived for the new GM as per the rulebook.

An idea: A derelict team's pick could be taken away, but given back upon improvement in performance. We could call this a suspended pick.

For example, the GM might lose a first rounder in this draft (2017), but gain the 1st rounder back the following year (2018) and end up with two first rounders.

It would be an incentive, but would require that we keep tabs. There could be some controversy about where the pick would go in the order (e.g., a suspended pick could always be top-3 protected).

Only the recent penalties, not those accrued from past years.

For the record, I'm okay with anything you do, but wanted to share my thoughts.

From the Rule book:

"If that particular draft pick has already been traded, the same draft pick for the following year will be surrendered. If you inherit a team, you do not inherit the previous owner's damages from the preceding season. "

Although they should not have been included in the lotto. So I now have to review the lotto standings.

Yes, but my point is that the rule cumulatively worsens an already bad team, not just in the short term. So if a team loses a pick in 2015, the new GM in 2017 will not get it back. Maybe he should?

And wouldn't it be nice to incentivize NJ to work a bit harder and get his pick back? No offense, NJ.

yeah gimme my fucking pick back, since I added defense to make minimum games and I still got no fucking idea why they were dropped from my team, then I wound up checking in over a week later and I was fucked in the ass on my minimum games. I didn't see any deadline and I was goddamn Dean Martin and Miles Davis' love-child with my salary cap.

I don't need my hand held and be warned every time, but since I don't dwell here too often other than a quick glance at the fantasy league board I wouldn't mind having the rule where there's a deadline on adding a few scrubs to make min games... or at least the subsection and appendices pointed out for my thick, beach-dwelling ass.

I still think making the minimums is important, but I'm wondering if instead of losing the pick outright, the pick just gets moved to last pick of that particular round?

We also need to settle contraction format if we need it next year or in the future. My vote is they all get dumped into the entry draft, others think a separate draft with random draft order?

I'm fine with one draft if we decide now. People won't be left without early picks due trades in a soft draft year.

The minimums accomplish nothing.

Minimums mean you actually have to ice a team under the cap which does make it more difficult to tank. Not impossible, but more difficult.

Also icing a proper team is kinda the point of being in a pool.

It does not. Picking up scrubs to hit the minimum is the best way to tank anyway, missing the minimums by only playing to handful of talented youngsters you have won't result in an abysmal PPG. Free plugs off the waiver wire will.

Dereliction should not be rewarded. I'm with MP on this, although penalties can be adjusted.

Weclome back everyone.

First order of business: Ice's team.

Anyone know anybody that would be interested? Do we advertise outside of broads or should we contract?

I'd like to settle this before holding the draft lotto.

Boltsfan doesn't own his 5th round pick he is required to forfeit for missing the minimum D GP by 2, and therefore loses Dr. C's 4th rounder (the next closest higher pick).

I have no preference for either but yes, if we don't get someone before the lotto, lets contract and have his players go into the draft rather than holding out hope someone will join later

I would just do a lotto without a GM and then we have plenty of time in the off-season to find a replacement for Ice. Not sure why we're panicking.
