Poll: Contraction

Post #1 by Dr_Chimera » Sat Sep 09, 2017 2:31 pm

This is purely hypothetical. If we do contraction - and we might not - how would you prefer to handle it?

1) Hold a separate contraction draft or 2) incorporate the contracted roster into the regular draft?

I'm curious where people lean on this. I would prefer a separate contraction draft, because 2017 draft picks have been traded in the past several months with no anticipation of contraction, which means contraction would affect people unequally.

I prefer no contraction. But if it did have to happen then a separate dispersal has to happen

Okay, so if we're short one GM do we go ahead with a draft without them? Or contract?

Well, I gave my buddy ample opportunity to get into this thing. I have no choice but assume he's not interested contrary to what he told me on separate occasions.

Reddit is a possibility for recruitment, but we could also open it up on Fantrax.

All right. Can someone do the reddit thing. I don't post there.

Or give me a link and I'll do it.

Did anyone do this? How about this forum? https://www.fantrax.com/forums/nhl/thre ... mcbro39s/1

Just thinking what could be said:

- we're a keeper league (for how many years now?)
- one available team (maybe list some of the players on it)
- maybe add something about league rules?
- draft coming up soon
- what else?

I've put up an ad on fantrax. Will keep you posted.

If any of you has done something similar please let me know. I wouldn't want to admit someone only to learn that someone else is lined up. OK?

I suggest we go ahead with the draft, and I can take care of the picks for Team A. We could also follow a very simple approach: give the team the highest available pick from the recent NHL draft.

A GM might still come along in the meantime. As things stand, we can schedule the draft to begin right around the weekend. Maybe Friday, with enough time to alert everyone. Thoughts?

So the second option then. There is a downside to it, but it's been done before.

I know prospects pretty well and only have a limited number of spots on my roster anyway. I think I'd do a good job, but won't do it if people feel I won't be objective.

Is IceCold technically awol? I am betting he won't show up, and we'll need to decide how to handle that.

I do. But giving an absent GM the highest draft pick is not my idea; it is something that has been done in this league before. It is the simplest, most objective approach. It is harder with NHL FAs who are not listed in any order.

I'd rather rock polls, or leave it up to a GM without picks that might be impacted. Even just a 3 person committee or something?

In the past the GM wass given the highest pick taken in the NHL entry draft. I don't see why we would do anything different if we go that route. But it'll be substantially harder to find a GM post draft...

In other news GM's should start preparing their teams to draft, as you can only draft if you have roster space available, and there is no dropping allowed mid draft.
