Let's say we have a firm clock (adjusted for sleeping and reasonable-ness, but firm). Say, six hours.

At the six-hour mark, instead of having that gm skipped or auto-picked, any other gm may bid on that pick with other remaining picks or with picks from future years. The highest bidder wins that pick - even if it's a lone gm bidding a 7th rounder in 2021.

This will create a bidding war for intransigent gms and picks, which could be fun.

The problem I see is twofold: What do we do with the bidden picks that have won? And does the intransigent gm lose his pick completely?

For the first problem, I am still brainstorming with myself.

I suggest those bidden picks go to the GM next in line - for he was the one who was forced to wait six/twelve hours or more. With that considered, the GM next in line MUST be forbidden from bidding because he would thus get all the picks.

For the second problem: what happens to the original GM's pick?

I suggest it gets transformed into the lowest of the bidden picks. Thus, if a 2nd round pick is up and the GM is awol, and someone bids two thirds (2017, 2018), and a Seventh (2019). The intransigent GM gets the 2019 7th and the next GM in line gets the two thirds in 2017 and 2018 while the highest bidder gets the 2nd round pick from the AWOL gm!

Only math will apply, e.g., a 2019 3rd is = to a 2017 3rd regardless of draft class. Higher the pick the better the bid.

Seems convoluted, we'll stick with the pick after 4 hours is skipped and the GM can select at any time upon return.

As in other years, if we don't get through all the picks by Monday, I will call the draft final at the end of any particular round.

Nothing like a good stream in the middle of the night...

Well, I'm going to start a 4 hour clock on picks. If you don't pick in that timeframe you are skipped, but you can make your pick when you get around to it. You cannot trade a skipped pick.

If you are done picking, please say so.

The clock will stop at 11pm and resume at 9 am, but if it's your pick at 10:59pm you must pick by 9am or you are skipped.

I mean yes and no. I've only taken NHL prospects and I was planning on grabbing some NHL guys for my roster with those picks, instead it's about to be a free-for-all which eliminates strategy. Obviously we had some issues this year but if we start the draft about a week earlier next time, we don't run into this issue. Plus you have the people who involved picks in trades that are now moot.
