Disable Windows Updates on Windows 10

Post #1 by chicpea » Mon Mar 23, 2020 11:05 pm

If you're like any person who has ever used windows, you will have experienced the following from automatic updates on windows

a] extreme lag due to background downloads of enormity
b] sudden shut down at crucial time to apply updates you neither want nor need but fix holes in their coders' initial hasty work.

I advise you to shut this function off unless you require it - which should be rarely, say twice a month.

In previous iterations of windows, this was an option, though you had to go through some hoops. However, in windows 10, microsoft decided to take this option away from you completely, most likely because they know you are a complete fucking idiot and they need to reach your computer at all times because they have fucked up so much and so very frequently.

That said, there is a type of work-around. Please follow my 6.5 steps below if you would like to learn how.

Unfortunately, if you are a high-frequency user of your comp, you will need to this about 3x/day. This is because, although Windows Services is now set to "Disabled" (as opposed to Manual, Automatic [Delayed Start], and Automatic), it will still re-start on its own about every six hours. This is because Microsoft, to underscore my point about them being total fucking assholes, cares neither what you think nor what you want, despite your having paid large sums to 'own' their OS. So fuck you.

This is the best work-around you will find. It's a chore, but it will save your ass one day and then you will owe me.

I advise doing precisely that.

Turn it on once a week or so when you need an update.

If you forget, that's okay - it's already turned itself back on anyway!

I agree. Updates are important. Security updates. Windows updates are sometimes security updates; ergo, some windows updates are important. Many are not.

Asking for a friend. Will this help with the Microsoft Cortana virus I keep hearing about in the news?
