Ubuntu install w/ Windows 10.

Post #1 by Rogers Pancreas » Thu Apr 30, 2020 1:50 pm

Has anyone here tried overwriting Windows 10 with Ubuntu only to be told the PC/laptop has Intel's Rapid Storage Technology (fake raid?), and that it needs to be disabled before you can proceed?

I was using a bootable usb with the ubuntu iso. Get about three steps in and Ubuntu threw up that message, before it forces you to exit the install.

I was able to get the SSD to AHCI (from Raid 0), and disabled/enabled the safeboot without any change. I also played around with legacy boot, to see if that would get me anywhere.

Still nowhere.

I'm toying around with the idea of doing a complete wipe of the SSD, and starting over. Get rid of Windows 10. Get rid of any goofy settings in the BIOS. And then try an install of Ubuntu.

Do you have another hard drive besides the solid state? Could install there but would kinda defeat the purpose of a SSD. Not that Ubuntu is that intensive to run.

That's the rub of it. I was able to run Ubuntu off a flash drive, but the "hard drive" capacity was 25 gig, or roughly the size of the flash drive. I can run like that, but ideally I'd like to run Ubuntu off the internal SSD.

Try installing it again and take a picture of the error message. I just noticed this thread. I’ve been running Debian for decades now which is what Ubuntu is based off of.
