2016 Trade Deadline Predictions

Post #1 by Jyrki21 » Wed Feb 10, 2016 11:07 am

I think Jim Benning will trade his first-rounder to the Utica Comets for Brandon Prust.

Still a chance that the Canucks trade Prust and/ or Weber. Outside of that nothing will happen. I think Benning is done giving up assets for crap (at least until the off season) and he isn't going to sell while the Canucks are still "in" the playoff hunt.

Edler out 3 weeks and Sutter out with a broken jaw means Benning's hand is forced and he has no choice to sell OR he goes all in on Lucic and trades Demko and a 2nd to land him.

This is either going to be a catastrophic failure or absolutely do nothing of a trade-deadline for the team. I have zero confidence that we'll come out of this with anything positive to say other than "He didn't fuck up too many trades".

I'm much more worried that Edler's absence will mean he feels he "can't" trade Hamhuis.

In the meantime, though, something to consider, which I found equal parts interesting and odd: the Canucks apparently haven’t, as of today, received a single call, not one, from another team inquiring about Hamhuis’s availability. I suspect that will change – L.A. is one of multiple teams with a veteran rental d-man as No. 1 on their wish list – especially if he continues to play as well in the days and weeks to come as he did last night.

Just an FYI in case any teams were curious. Nobody is interested in Hamhuis and you can have him for cheap.

Dean Lombardi is going to bend Benning over and do bad things to him in a Hamhuis trade.

Benning is like the anti-Nonis/Burke when it comes to working the media.

Hamhuis will be traded for a 2nd rounder to a pacific contender after Benning forces him to waive his NTC by stripping him of the "A", giving it to Bartkowski instead because Bart isn't afraid to make mistakes every game which is a sign of character.

Vrbata will be traded for a 3rd rounder to a contender under the assumption that "they won't have the cap space to resign him, so that's why we got less back in value" and that they openly tell everyone through the phones that Vrbata is injured and probably won't be 100% to anyone going for a deep playoff run because honesty is the best policy when making friends in the trade world.

Vey will be traded for a 4th rounder somewhere in the east, and the entire advertisement for him is that he was drafted by LA which speaks more volumes than any drafting record the canucks can show for

I wouldn't be surprised if Vey was traded for someone considerably worse on a long term NHL contract. Like another Sbisa. Benning sees it as an upgrade while the team dumping the contract says how great Benning is to trade with.

They would trade Henrik Sedin before they trade Vey. Yes, they sent him down that one time. But since he's been called up he's gone back to big minutes and PP time.

Stan Bowman is longing for ex-Canucks (Weise, Ehrhoff). Too bad that imbecile couldn't get in on anything, though that dum-dum probably takes back Bickell :nucks:

Nailed it.

Actually I guess I was wrong about Benning being done giving out assests for crap. I didn't see the Granlund trade coming.

So even Benning couldn't be this dumb, could he? To hang on to two expiring UFAs with no hope of playoffs?

But then if it's ownership, what's their endgame? They're even worse at math?

If anything, this proves a high school education (including math) doesn't mean much. Jim Benning worked real hard to get one just to make his mom happy, and he only increased his IQ by a couple points over 80.

The Blackhawks’ package was more complex. It involved unwanted contracts like Bryan Bickell and Chris Higgins. Remember when Toronto and Vancouver tried to make a Robert Luongo trade tight to the end? It didn’t work because things were too complex. Same here. Chicago wanted Hamhuis, too.

Can't imagine this deal getting done unless Bowman comes over and draws it out on Benning's whiteboard.

This one killed me:
The Canucks GM knew that wouldn’t fly, and invoked the Brian Burke/Mike Cammalleri rule of, “I’m not trading a good player for nothing, because then other teams will think they can do that forever.”

Cause they don't think that now do they Jimmy?

Every GM and every agent in the league is probably desperate to deal with Benning. He's the exact opposite of Gillis.
