Re: Android TV Box
I use a Chromebox. It's fantastic because a lot of streams still use fucking Adobe Flash.

Re: Android TV Box
My wife and I canceled cable about a year and a half ago. We get around not having cable by paying for netflix, using my parents' HBO and showtime logins, and we have a slingbox set up at their house to watch Devils games. We are using a Roku3 since at the time that was the only device that could get all 3 (HBO, SHO and Sling) of the services we wanted. Netflix is on our TV so that works fine without the roku. We have not missed cable at all, and definitely haven't missed the bill. We're paying $45/month for 50MB down, 25 up. Much less than the $80 we were paying for cable internet and phone, and WAY less than we would have had to pay had we lost our promotional rate at the end of the year. We actually ended up paying a $200ish ETF to cancel FIOS and have made that $ up many times over since then..
Initially when we made the switch, we bought a Skystream android box. It worked fine but couldn't get Showtime since their app wasn't android compatible. Or maybe it was HBO. I forget, but one of them didn't work on android. Now that it appears all 3 will work on Android, I would like to switch back to Android, but w/e, the Roku works fine.
The big thing I will most likely upgrade in the near future is getting a new slingbox. Ours will only stream at 640x480, which is really shitty when we're viewing on one of the best TVs ever made.
TL;DR: Yes, we made the jump from cable, it took a bit to get used to but we don't miss it at all, and are saving a considerable sum of $

Re: Android TV Box
... And a $20 off $100 eBay coupon coupled with a $100 used Slingbox 500 means I'm upgrading my Slingbox.

Re: Android TV Box
I'm debating making the switch. I couldn't care less about TV programs but live sports are a big thing for me.

Re: Android TV Box
Have a friend or family member who won't cancel cable? Get a Slingbox and hook it up at their house and pay them to have an extra cable box. It works surprisingly well and basically never has issues

I just bought myself a raspberry Pi and installed openelec (Kodi) on it. Thing runs like a dream and there is limitless live sports with the various add-ons. The whole kit cost me less than $100.

I'm happily in the Apple eco system with 2 Apple TV's (last gen) + 3 cheap Google Chromecasts (first gen stick looking thing). I'm only going to fork out for another unit like this when they support 4K just so they'll have support for the next gen format. Just focus on one that supports 4k is my opinion.

Re: Android TV Box
Watching tv online via a browser always sucks for me. I wouldn't even consider that alternative.

Re: Android TV Box
I ended up getting a Roku 3. It does the trick but you really have to mess around with it. If you download the Plex channel you can do some magic with it.
After discovering Roku, I found out about TigerStream. https://tigerstream.tv/

Re: Android TV Box
Anyone have experience using Gamecentre on an android box? The judder is infuriating.
Also, let's keep this thread about Galchenyuk's on-ice performance, development and value and NOT bring in his personal life or race.

Re: Android TV Box
The fucking assholes at Roku removed the XTV channel last week. Roku is obsolete now.
