I don't think that's an issue in the US/Europe/China/Russia/Australia. Does the block outside those countries really matter ?
Dog, there are like 5 European countries that have better women's soccer teams than us. For the men it's all of them. Like even Iceland, Monaco, probably the Vatican. And that's a sport people care about.
There are 4. I don't think women's soccer teams ranking below Canada in, say, the netherlands, Italy, switzerland, spain, austria, denmark, belgium, etc, etc is because women in those countries aren't as socially free as in Canada.

It is a conspiracy by Big Oil to get more cars on the road so they can sell more gasoline.
Dog wrote:Next thing you know, we'll be putting all our monies on the para-olympics because it's easier to win there.
Or just the Winter Para-Olympics.

All I need is a self-driving car.

Socially free isn't the same thing as being socially inclined to play sports.
I think it's mostly funding in the west and funding plus social norms in the east. But I admit I hardly know anything about eastern European culture.

I don't think swedish chicks are active but danes aren't. I also don't think Canadian men are so much less active than portuguese men that it would explain the difference in men's soccer rankings. I'd guess it has alot more to do with the fact women's events are newer and Canada got in from the get go with high level trainingg in those -sorta like doing backflips on skis in the winter olympics.

yall should just do some old fashion nation building. Best value for your coup d'etat dollars would be a Canadian takeover of Hungary. Yall would move in to the top 10 of the medal count.

First Canadian man to jump backwards over a higher bar than any other man in the world since Duncan McNaughton in 1932.

Holy fuck, that high jump gold medal was Canada's first gold in athletics since Atlanta. That is embarrassing.

It’s a shame Angelica Bengtsson of Sweden failed to qualify for the Olympics.

How could you go wrong with women
Wrestling, but they did. Perhaps they need to add mud, jello or lingerie.

That Bolt guy sure is quick.
Speaking of non-Olympians, Allison Stokke is still pole vaulting.

PS, it's A pole. It's an optical illusion. The rest of the pole sort of looks like one of the lane lines.

we've gotten to know a family down the road who raise and sell horses for this industry. They take a physical pounding, I'd rather my kids played football than did equestrian. Pretty shady business though.

Thank god social media embarrassed this guy after giving his all and then some to finish the race. He shouldn't feel good about that accomplishment at all and deserves to be haunted by it here on forward.

Ah, hell. Emily Batty (CDN) finished 4th in BMX biking or something.

Catharine Pendrel (CDN) won the bronze, for those who care.
