I know we talked about hockey podcasts in the other thread. Fyi, Puck Soup's recent episode with 2 folks from the Department of Player Safety was a fun listen.

That was fun, but few hours later Kadri smoked Sedin and nothing what they said make any sense for me.JLHockeyKnight wrote:I know we talked about hockey podcasts in the other thread. Fyi, Puck Soup's recent episode with 2 folks from the Department of Player Safety was a fun listen.

Metallica's new album is their best album since their first 4 albums. Seriously if you are one those people that gave up hope on them, swallow your pride and give the new album a listen. They released all 12 songs as music videos, just check their Facebook page.

Napster happened.
Fuck them forever in the ear-holes.
Plus, there are so many more entertaining bands out there worth listening to that it's not even worth the compromise.

Ironically, they are now on the 'Napster' branded streaming service.

Both of those songs I felt like could fit right into Ride the Lightning, which is my favorite Metallica album. Moth into Flame is easily my favorite song on the album.

Marc Maron's hilarious.
I'm glad I got to see him in Rochester where he verbally beatdown a dumb-fuck couple that wanted to be the center of attention.

has anyone seen Goliath on Amazon?
I binged watched all 8 episodes this past Monday.
really liked it.
Billy Bob Thornton plays a washed out lawyer takes on a wrongful death case against the law firm he used to work for.
William Hurt is in it as well as his rival who hates his guts.

Re: Music/Movies/TV/Games/Books/Podcasts 2
I've had my eye on it. The fact that I bought an UHD TV a few months ago and saw it's in UHD was also tempting. I'll have to check it out.
Netflix now forces you to get the 4 screen family plan for $11.99 to get UHD. Used to be available on the cheaper plans...not anymore, lame.
Considering Amazon Prime is $99 a year and Prime Video is just included, it's a great deal for all you get. I'm starting to feel like Netflix is going to keep running up their prices. I love that they have all these original shows because so many are good, but where do the price increases end where people just start unsubscribing?

Frankly, Prime pays for itself with the shipping alone. Plus all the video content it's just an unbelievable deal.

Netflix has turned itself into an Internet version of HBO. As long as their original content stays strong they can charge what they want.

That is certainly true. I order so much crap since I don't have to get it up to 35 bucks or whatever it is for free shipping now.

Eh, I have pretty mixed feelings (Wife is even more mixed) on Westworld. They did a fantastic job with world development, acting, etc., but I thought the plot--particularly through the first 5-7 episodes--was pretty flimsy. The other problem (not so much for me), is that if you do not give a shit about the philosophical question of AI "humanity" then the show really struggles.
I will be curious to see what they do with the second season. There is a lot to like about the show, but a great deal of room for growth and I think the hype train has overlooked some non-trivial flaws.

Because apparently I am masochist, and despite knowing that it would be awful, I watched Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice today. Mostly this was because I wanted to see how bad it really was. Holy crap this movie is absolute garbage. Nothing in this movie makes any sense whatsoever. It's a joyless slog with no motivation for any of its characters' actions, a terrible plot full of holes, ridiculous sequel baiting and almost no redeeming qualities. Fuck this movie.

Re: Music/Movies/TV/Games/Books/Podcasts 2
The Avengers worked so well because we heavily invested in character development leading up to it. DC is hoping that they can skip all that and throw enough eye candy at the screen that it will sell. While it is selling, it just doesn't hold up like a Marvel movie. Even Doctor Strange had the expected Marvel movie ending and it was STILL FUCKING GREAT. That says a lot.

Affleck and Gadot were the only redeeming qualities of that movie for me.
Also, I remember seeing a YouTube video where they removed Zac Snyder's darkness filters from Man of Steel and it feels like a way better movie.

If you don't give a shit about any show's main "philosophical question" or theme or whatever, of course it will seem emptier. Why watch a show about AI if you have no interest in AI humanity?
I am curious to see how they develop the story into season 2 and beyond, which is where I think the show could fall flat a bit. If it is introducing many new characters and plot each season it won't seem very cohesive.

Well, to an extent this dodges the substance of the critique ... which is that the "human" aspect of Westworld is pretty flat. There's a reason that critical opinion--i.e., professional TV critiques--soured notably on the show as it progressed. There are also some real logical flaws to the plot that does exist, but I don't want to get into that for folks that are currently watching the season. It's worth noting that Ex Machina dwelt on these same philosophical questions. So, one question is which did/does it better?--I loved Ex Machina. Because they do it in very different ways.
I think one point I would make about the show that is important given the folks backing it ... if you thought Lost was a frustrating show, then this has some similar elements (not unlike The Leftovers, another show that got equal parts love and loathing).

Huge fan here but I think it might only work if you watch it late at night with some kind of alcoholic beverage.
