That was just one of those 'gotcha' quotes taken out of context. Does not mean they didn't interfere, but there remains no hard evidence.

The Russian interference narrative was mostly an election tactic by the DNC and it failed miserably.

I've been following this as well. Incredible story.

Ukrainian authorities say the assassination reports were intended to "expose Russian agents," BBC's Joel Gunter reports. Per Meduza, Babchenko said at the news conference: "Special apologies to my wife. Olechka, I am sorry, but there were no options here. The operation took two months to prepare. I was told a month ago. As a result of the operation, one person has been captured, he is being held."

"Special apologies to my wife."

Poltorak quits military service, continues to lead Defense ministry as civilian – Poroshenko

"According to the law on national security, the position of Ukraine's Defense Minister must be held by a civilian starting from January 1, 2019. So, Stepan Poltorak submitted a letter of resignation, and I accepted it," Poroshenko said at a ceremonial event honoring the Ukrainian military in Kyiv on October 13, according to the Ukrainian news outlet Ukrayinska Pravda. The president says "the dismissal from military service is not a punishment or evidence of shortcomings in work." Poltorak will continue to lead the ministry as civilian. The head of state added that the law had been agreed with NATO partners and such a procedure was provided for. Thus, "the decision is fully in keeping with the spirit and letter of the law," he said.

A prominent Ukrainian anti-corruption activist has died, three months after she was injured in an acid attack.

Kateryna Handzyuk, 33, suffered burns over 40% of her body and severe eye damage as a result of the assault on 31 July in the southern city of Kherson.

Ms Handzyuk, who was also a Kherson city council member, had undergone 11 operations in the capital Kiev.

President Petro Poroshenko on Sunday called for the killers to be punished. Five suspects are already in custody.

The exact cause of Ms Handzyuk's death was not immediately known, but reports in local media suggested it was a blood clot.

In September, the activist - who also campaigned against Russian-backed separatism - posted a video in which she urged Ukrainians to fight rampant corruption.

"I know I look bad now. But at least I'm being treated," she said. "And I definitely know that I look much better than justice in Ukraine. Because nobody is treating it."

The death of the activist on Sunday triggered an avalanche of reactions on social media in Ukraine, with many users expressing shock.

In Doc's defense, when RFERL and even Ukrainian media hasn't mentioned a GRU/Russian aspect, its quite possible it was dirty cops who didn't want their deeds dug up. Some Right Sector goons could have been paid off to do this as well.

If I question more, perhaps it will lead to a GRU money trail.

In September 2017, she accused Artem Antoshchuk, a department head in the Kherson Regional Police, of demanding a 3 percent cut from all contracts and tenders in the region.

The accusation led to a fierce court battle, which she won.

Police have arrested five former fighters of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army, a splinter faction of the ultranationalist Right Sector militia, suspected of involvement in the attack.

Four of the men have claimed the fifth, Serhiy Torbin, a former officer of Kherson police, was the main suspect.

Torbin is in the custody of the Security Service of Ukraine at a pretrial detention center in Kyiv, his defense lawyer Yuriy Khazov told the Kyiv Post newspaper.

Stills from a CCTV camera published by local media appear to show the alleged attacker running away from the scene of the crime.

It seems flaneur has done more reading about this than me. I was under the impression that the Russians haven't been accused of anything, except for the inevitable 'guilt-by-association' framing in Western newspapers.

Getting a little tired of "Russians are responsible for all bad things" stories." There's one today alleging that half of the Russian population in the U.K. are informants, by The Times I think. I won't bother linking that.

The Golden Key is always the Russia accusation. I just found it odd that the CIA and pro-Kiev media outlets aren't really pushing the GRU line because I was under that presumption as well until I looked around an hour ago. Seems more like a domestic dispute with the "she was against separatism" as a point to frame it as a possible action coming from Russia or the Novorussia fellas.

Obviously Russia does nefarious shit but if the western mass media keeps the line up, it will backfire eventually, even if Russia did it. It plays into Putin's hands. He can do whatever and point to the ridiculous accusations leveled against the Kremlin.

Russia is content with plausible deniability.

11am Emergency UNSC meeting tomorrow.

Ukraine, After Naval Clash With Russia, Considers Martial Law

At a midnight meeting, Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council said it would ask Parliament to declare a state of martial law. That raised alarms that President Petro O. Poroshenko could use the incident to delay a presidential election scheduled for March that polls suggest he is unlikely to win.

“This whole story grows more complicated by the fact that during martial law, it is forbidden to hold presidential, parliamentary or local elections, as well as strikes, protests, rallies and mass actions,” Mustafa Nayyem, a member of Parliament, posted on Facebook.

he Ukrainian Navy left little ambiguity in asserting that its ships had been attacked. “Fighter jets used weapons against the naval ships of the armed forces of Ukraine,” the navy’s statement said.
