D's having her big sale this weekend. Our horse training friend was just here. I noticed she had a bumper sticker [hate bumper stickers], Something like 'A Ride a day keeps therapist away' I read it as The Rapist at first. I told her it was in very poor taste.

Re: Habs Broads: Everything is meh and everbody is meh
Another customer's here, texted D last Saturday, said her water broke, did she think she should go right to the hospital or wait for some labor pains. I followed their texting awhile and suggested that maybe the medical community should be brought into the process. Baby was born about 8 hours later. She's shopping, left her husband in charge for an hour. I asked her if he'd ever been alone with a baby before. Nope. I do hope she doesn't stay long.

I don’t know what you are imagining. The electrochocks aren’t even very harsh.
Seriously, it’s not a big deal at all. She’s asked once or twice about girl-boy relative abilities. Seems to have come from school. Also, looking over some kids history books we picked up in France she asked about girl’s treatment back in history. Some book about leading historical figures had articles about women’s rights leaders / suffragette or somewhat. It’s not an issue, all I was saying is even if you don’t bring up gender, it’s not like they’re isolated from the world.
That study I referred to is something I saw in an article in the Atlantic I believe it was.

Re: Habs Broads: Everything is meh and everbody is meh
What really pissed her off in France was while visiting the conciergerie she saw a painting with kids in a cell -emprisoned by the Jacobin or something. She kept on saying, maybe the king wasn’t very nice, but the revolutionaries « ils ont vraiment exagéré « ! She repeated that every time she saw something about the revolution. Turned her into a royalist, I believe.

Dog wrote:You related this to my daughter, nick. I thought about that. I certainly don’t teach her that she’ll face headwinds as a woman and her goal is to fight those headwinds. I teach her the opposite. That girls are just as smart as boys and can do whatever they want. I’ve always been mindful not to give her doubt on women’s place in the world. But you know what, it comes anyways. She’s come to me with quite a few « girls vs boys » questions, all since starting school. Looking at history books, she’s also noted how shitty women had it in the past. It brings up questions. My answer has always to enforce that they were wrong, those headwinds are lifted and she can do anything she wants. Still, she doesn’t just live with me. She gets societal messages from peers, tv, etc. And even at 7 has questionned it. I’m also mindful that she is quite privileged and has alot of ressources backing her. Because of that, I’m quite confident she will face relatively limited headwinds. Except maybe if she goes into STEM. Those incels scare me. Seriously, there is a problem in tech with regards to women. Hopefully, it is addressed by the time she grows up if she goes down that path. If I was raising a kid facing significant more headwinds than an upper middle class white girl, I may have a different perspective. May prepare him/her to expect more headwinds. I’m also myself and my wife relatively educated, well off, resourceful types. That informs my worldview and approach. If I had less tools/privileges, I’d be different.
An interesting I came accross a while ago. Studies tend to show that girl’s perdormance in STEM tails off in high school, mostly because of culture. This, in 2017. Studies as simple as giving a math test to grade schoolers and high schoolers. Two groups for each. One group told the « test is very hard, most fail » before starting. The other, not told this. Girls in elementary school did similarly in both groups. Girls in high school trailled boys significantly if told in advance the math test was hard. They bettered boys if not told this. Something between elementary school and high school changes girl’s perception of their ability in stem. The message is cultural.
If you had a son, you wouldn't want some incel types around him... and the fact that some of their grievances (boys drop out rate, substance abuse, suicide rate) are legitimate concerns, doesn't make their extreme claims any more acceptable. Same goes with the extreme opposite of the specter. The vast majority of feminists defend legitimate issues, but some of them have pathological views of men and society and that's what I'm trying to point out. It's insidious in a way because those people hide behind the veil of progress, and people are not eager to commit social suicide to call them out. Just like antifa types who hide behind anti-racism claims to go around and use violence to sort political conflict. Took a couple of weeks for people to wake up and say that it was not actually a terribly good thing to legitimize political violence.. I'm not saying that you should shelter your daughter from feminist views, but if I had a teenage girl that was leaning towards those ideas, I would take the time to have a serious conversation with her to make sure she doesn't get sucked in some negative vortex.
As for STEM, I'm really not educated on that topic.. I think though that boys and girls brains are wired in different ways and the fact that those fields are dominated by men doesn't necessarily equate to widespread discrimination. I've heard some studies with babies (6 months or less) showed that females spent much more time looking at faces while males spent much more time looking at objects, and the same was observed in females relative to the levels of testosterone they measured. I don't think it's surprising to see humanistic fields being dominated by women and have computer science and engineering fields being mostly dominated by men, medicine is pretty even... but as I've said, I don't really know..maybe there's some work to do to encourage girls to pursue their STEM studies. I know a couple of girls that went through engineering and I've never heard them complain about discrimination. There was a feminist study that I had to review for a class about women in politics and the results were basically a. women who succeeded said they didn't feel discriminated against b. women who succeeded displayed more masculine traits of character c. opposite for both a and b for women who failed ...anyway

Women are topically better at STEM jobs than men. The problem is entirely cultural.

Okay... tell her that it's just another way for the patriarchy to remind her of her own inferiour status.

I’m pretty sure she’ll make the groom carry the bouquet if she ever gets married.
Not that there is anything wrong with that. I guess.

Flowers covered the odour of people who did not bathe when the tradition started. Essentially it was so that the groom would not reject the bride for being unclean.
The lesson for your daughter is that she should consider herself fortunate to be in a society where bathing is not an issue any longer. Also that she should shower when you tell her, lest people stop loving her.

This is exactly the sort of answer that will satisfy her.

Guys I think we've seen how defending capitalism has made us beasts whom are ready to knife their brothers in the throat without a second thought. We should just move on and concede that the immortal technique of marxism is the only way to administrate a community.
