Trade Proposal

Post #1 by Muffin Mannequin » Sun Feb 04, 2018 1:08 pm

Hey team.

Management really needs to make a bold move to save the future of the team. What would it take to pry Chris Stewart out of Minny?

We need to trade a few of our depth defencemen for picks. There's really no point in holding all of Harpur, Claesson, Borowiecki, Wideman, and Oduya. All are cheap enough that contenders can afford to acquire them as insurance policies. Wideman and Oduya should be gone.
It's the same with our bottom 6 players. Paajarvi, Dumont, DiDomenico should all be traded if someone wants them.

The glory that is Chris Stewart should only be acquired when the Sens have their best shot at the Cup, which should be somewhere between the draft and July 1st.

Well something is going to happen soon. The team has that vibe. The players are just going through the motions now.

Probably best to release Boucher in the summer or when a good coach becomes immediately available on the open market (market open, in Quebec)

I'd like to trade Smith, Burrows, Wideman, and Ryan at the deadline. I like Ryan as a player, but on a team with an imposed cap, you can't pay $7.5M for a guy with a glass hand.

I'd be ok with trading Ceci and Pageau.

I hate the idea of trading Hoffman unless the return is awesome, but if we trade Hoffman, might as well find a new home for Duchene as well.

Might as well prepare yourself for disappointment now then:

If the Senators are to deal Hoffman, they’re going to want a first-round pick in return, plus a young player that’s currently in the league, or a very high level prospect that has plenty of upside potential.

But siriusly, how many teams could take on that much money? A couple, and both of them would be bad teams with low payroll and probably both on Ryan NT list.

Not that believable.

It isn't believable that it would happen but is it believable that Melnyk would push Dorion to shop for it? If Terry Marcotte of all people is reporting a rumour then you have to think that there is something to it.

I might have to jump back on the Winnepeg bandwagon if we trade EK. It coukd be the best move, if you win the Dahlin sweepstakes, but you still gotta be getting a hell of package in return. I just don't see how we are gonna come out ahead without knowing the draft lotto, especially if we are forcing Ryan into the mix.

Also, trading Hoffman would be a mistake.

Duchene will be traded by the draft.

As long as Melnyk owns the team there’s no way good talent ever signs here - executives, management, players.

It is staggering how much Melnyk has run this organization in to the ground. Maybe those middle of the night drunken phone calls to players weren’t such a good idea after all.

I think it's a lot of media speculation to be honest. I do think they must trade Brassard, Smith. Odouya by Monday.

I'm fine with Pageau moving on. Same with Hoffman but mostly because they'd probably get a really good amount back. It's basically a way to get 5 years younger. I would keep Hoffman personally, and I think they have a good chance of signing Duchene long term even if Karlsson is gone. Stone is a company man who if paid respectfully will come to work with his lunch kit for 10 more years. I love him as captain and I think that's my biggest plus to trading Karlsson. Seeing Stone as captain would instantly change the dynamic of the team. He'd have the full podium in the room and the man plays a complete game. He's never dodged an interview in these rough times. Hard work is what got him into the NHL full time and he just has that different work style than Karlsson....I'm rambling here.

Even without those guys above, they'll add guys in the summer so it's really not doom and gloom. I would say next years team without all the guys above probably wins as many games as this years team if they get some competent goat lending. Really hard to be super bad in this league. They'll need to add guys in the summer, but it's important to get as many guys under 24 and picks as they can in the next couple days.

Long term, I think that this Karlsson saga will be good for Ottawa because of the resulting lower ticket sales and increased Toronto media interest in Senators' ownership .

Unfortunately, Stone has asked for a trade. He’s a RFA, so that doesn’t help him, but the point is that he wants out of Ottawa. Don’t expect him to sign a long term deal when his contract is up.

Turris wanted out and he got it. Karlsson let it be known he wasn’t resigning and now he’s about to be traded.

Any players who sign in Ottawa in the offseason are doing so because it’s their last resort.

This is the new normal until Melnyk dies.

That's actually a pretty good return on Brassard. I didn't think they'd get anywhere near that with another year on his salary, and really, he's not a top end player. Cole getting flipped for another pick as well, so really not bad. I liked Brassard. He spoke to the media and was always honest and classy. Too much pressure with him coming in for a guy who's not a top center. Good depth guy, who should have a couple years left as long as his skating doesn't get any worse. He was pretty much spent in the post game interview last night. You could feel the trade talk in his voice. We often toss these guys around like meat, but they are people with families and houses and friends in their city that they play in. He sounded really down in the post game scrum last night. He knew it was coming. Can't be easy playing and living through that despite the tough front players put on.

I don't know about the wanting out rumours with Stone and other players. I just don't see it. It's not that bad in Ottawa. Despite all of Twitter thinking the team will fold if Karlsson is traded, everything will continue on and new names take the stalls of old names. You can't get too worked up about it.
