Galley on Sportsnet implied what we all kind of knew, that Dorion has been instructed by Melnyk to use Karlsson to dump Ryan. Another brilliant PR move.

I'm some how picturing September rolling around and Dorion discovering he's under the salary floor. Sadly it wouldn't be the craziest thing to happen to us this year.

The league office is in New York so Melnyk is going to need a few days to scrap together enough money to buy Dorion a long distance phone card.

Like siriusly, does anything surprise you anymore. This team has put up a 12 month free fall for the ages...

In hindsight, maybe that is better suited for the Northern Europe board.

I would agree. For someone to get that comfortable and blatant about it, he must have gotten away with it so many times that his fear of getting caught completely evaporated.
I would also wonder if this is going to bring out more accusations, but with the way the summer has gone for the Sens there isn't much to wonder. However I can maybe start wondering about how much Melnyk will sell this summer's story for. Hollywood must be knocking down doors to get their hands on this much drama. A hated owner harvests organs from fans, a trade gone wrong, a depraved official overseeing young athletes, an unhappy superstar whose wife is the victim of online harassment threatens to leave the team, the perpetrator of the harassment turns out to be a teammate's deranged wife!, they can't let the superstar leave because they traded their 1st rd pick and traded Hoffman for a shitty short term return, superstar's nemesis and husband to sicko wife gets traded right back in the division!, for a better return! doesn't the GM look a fool!, former superstar and local god speaks out off the record and slams current evil owner!, it gets reported! how wonderfully awkward, will the team be sold? the fans hope so but NO!... Did I miss anything? A large cast of shitty or heroic characters, plenty of twists, what more could you ask for?
A happy ending I guess. But with Randy still on the loose, I'm afraid to.

Re: Summer Recess 2: The Search for Curly's Gold
This Rick Lee story could get huge.
Not like he's just a regular queer perv, but damn he worked exclusively with these young guys. There's gotta be way more out there that will probably come to air.
I keep thinking about Bryan Murray. He seems like a guy who would see this and stomp it. Maybe it was well hidden? This could be the tip of the iceberg. How do you get promoted from bottom up?
Worst part is it will probably get tossed out of court by the employer's high paid lawyer. Which in itself raises at least a few question marks.

Re: Summer Recess 2: The Search for Curly's Gold
At this point i wouldn't be surprised if it came out that the reason for Eugene's divorce was that his ex caught him going for a little Rickroll in the hay with randy Randy.
These are honestly the darkest days in the franchise history. Even in the early 90's there was hope with the young players. What hope is there now? That the liver Eugene stole under false pretenses gives out? There's no young franchise player on the horizon. There's youth but they might turn into good players, not great players. The tendie situation is as bad as its been in 20 years and there's little chance it will be getting better any time soon. The team might be even worse next year and there's not even a first rounder to cushion that blow.

I still think the ownership issues that lead to Melnyk saving the team were darker days. The team may be in shambles, but at least it's staying in Ottawa. That wasn't always clear.

Tough to compare for me. The team was at least intelligently managed in those days. They always had a lot of hope.
What are the odds of articles trashing Karlsson as a person emerging in the sun post trade? If there is a trade...

First, nice choice of words.
Second, if this does indeed sprawl and other cases pop up, it will be very interesting to see how the Senators and the NHL play it, considering our extremely poor record on public relations and crisis management. For one, you can't dismiss Randy Lee for being attracted to 19 year old men, because on its own that's discrimination, although the idea of Rick becoming a martyr for the LGBT cause in professional sports really would be quite an ending to that Ottawa Senators movie. You can, however dismiss him for harassment/abuse of power, and that's ultimately the pattern that would need to be established.
Pro sports have not been as hard hit on issues of sexual harassment as other industries, for obvious demographic reasons. Domestic violence is kind of sports' thing in that broader sphere of issues, but what about abuse of power, authority and harassment. That would be a tough conversation for the NHL and other leagues to have. Wealthy male athletes feeling entitled to sex? Talk about an open secret. And even more generally, all sorts of coaching tactics would easily be considered verbal abuse in just about any other line of work.
Rick's erection has opened us up to all sorts of interesting conversations. I'd imagine the NHL steps in quickly if this goes further. No way they trust the Sens to handle another PR crisis, and Bettman must have all sorts of leverage over Melnyk at this point.

It was pretty clear back in the day it was sticking around. There were some nervous Nellies but it was obvious that Bryden was under financed and that was the root of the issues, not that Ottawa wasn't an NHL market.
As with back then, it was clear that new ownership would solve the issues. But unlike back then, the team wasn't shipping out the best player in its history. Nor did it have executives going around trying to impress teenagers with their erections. Plus Dorion's high fives and hugs had nothing on Muckler's sweaters.

If I were to actually go to a game next season, which i'm not because no fucking way I'm giving Eugene my money, I'd try to start a "Rick! Rick! Rick!" chant in the stand like this:

But instead of pointing up, I'd be pointing at my junk.

The reason that the English are so rarely crowned as soccer champions probably has something to do with their tendency to have misshapen heads. It would be much more difficult to hit a proper header when one's head is shaped like some strange gourd vegetable.

I fixed the site as best/fast as I could on vacation with my iPhone. I posted a little about it on the general forum. Long story short I restored it back to Sunday as that was the easiest thing for me to do.
