Homeownership Thread
Re: Homeownership Thread
I was watering this afternoon and testing out a new impact sprinkler. Nailed a bunch of people on the sidewalk with a bit of overspray. Some laughed, some we're surprised and one was a bit angry. I'm glad the angry one didn't say anything more than he did or I would have had to bury him in the low spot at the front of the lawn. It's too early to level it... would have been a waste of grass seed.
My lawn is too embarrassing to share. Maybe in 2020.

My flower gardens are fulfilling their purpose, completely distracting from the grass.

I love how PeLI is actively murdering his clover, while I'm trying to grow more of it.

My lawn is immaculate. Nothing but whatever the most desirable strain of grass is. It's dying because I don't water it and I do not care.

Ìm replacing as much grass as possible, clover and moss are doing what I want. The bee balm is admittedly getting out of control

We've paved everything to the point where we flash flood weekly and put this ugly turf everywhere else. I like to see a mess of diversity in the soil.

Same, though I appreciate grass a little more than I used to now that my kid is running around all the time. I'd still be perfectly happy with loads of clover and other stuff in there too.

We put in bee balm four or five years ago and it has crowded out almost everything in that part of the garden. Even the flox, which is another aggressive similar plant is being crowded out.

It's not so bad if the clover crowds out the grass. But thistles and other annoying weeds that make it tough.

Kentucky bluegrass. Nothing beats it IMO for colour and feel. It's a slow grower however, and thus doesn't do well with competition initially. So most grass seed mix it with something that grows faster to compete with weeds.
Re: Homeownership Thread
In July and August it's silvery and then goes dormant. Looks like shit. Still, I'd rather have it than what I have.
New mower is great. I finally got to use it today after temperatures went down. Pulled a Home Depot bucket worth of dying bindweed and thistle from the sideyard today. Clover is pretty much gone too. If the temperature stays down tomorrow evening, I am going to mix some 2,4-d and go through the front yard to go for the same results.

Raccoons are a bitch to get rid of, hopefully they don't start using your deck as a latrine like they did mine...

Raccoons are territorial. They make loops, and will likely be back in 2 to 3 days. Keep an eye out for ropey black feces, but watch out that stuff is apparently pretty toxic.

I spotted a brown mammal thingy walking in my yard yesterday. Looked like a smallish beaver, without the beaver tail. Anywho, that may well have been my baby rabbit killer.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out. I think someone else will take care of them if they're going to be an issue but don't need my dog to get sick, or get in a fight

Re: Homeownership Thread
If any of you degenerate bastards live near Revelstoke, bring your goddamn dope plants inside.
Also, what types of flowers and shrubs should I plant next year so I don't see the actual flowerbed? I don't even want to see the dirt. I don't want to put mulch in, I don't want to put rock in...maybe crushed brick. I don't know.
My lawn sucks today.

I had an infestation of house fly larvae in my garage. Spent an hour killing them all and cleaning up after it tonight. I might just have to burn the place down.

Hostas are the easiest, Lillies will get large enough. Lavender gets big, depends on what you like. Hydrangeas are pretty great

Re: Homeownership Thread
No, I was referring to a story about the RCMP taking some beatnik couple's weed in Revelstoke. I don't grow dope plants. I buy my weed the same way any self respecting Ontarian buys their drugs.

Ran out of deck sealer at 7:48 last night. 14 minute drive to the only place to get more that was still open and they closed at 8.
Just finished up now, hopefully it doesn't show too bad.

Re: Homeownership Thread
I got a 3 bedroom place, with a couple of rooms in the basement that could be bedrooms. Master is taken obvs, as is E's room. K is using the other bedroom as an office. So that leaves rooms in the basement, which are kinda a mix of storage and where my computer is set up and stuff. Rather than have a bed set up down there all the time, we got a Murphy bed.
It's not what you're picturing. It collapses into a cabinet sort of box, instead of the typical wall unit.

Re: Homeownership Thread
Just renewed my mortgage 2.77%, nice of them to drop the rates for my renewal...
Re: Homeownership Thread
House on the street went up for $150k more than we paid for our (almost identical) house last year.
Thinking about some of the shit I need to do this winter to keep the remodeling train rolling. Doing floors, doors and trim upstairs and then starting to put some cash aside to do the driveway. What's the cost difference between asphalt and stamped concrete? Looking for a good PORTUGUESE CONCRETE team if I don't go with asphalt.
Asphalt is like $4-5/sq ft, no? None of these bastards list their square footage rate on their sites and the driveway is about 1000sq ft so I don't want to piss around on the phone all day.

No, I got some random one from the web. It was, indeed, a pain in the ass.
It's also cheap particle board, I put a whole in the side putting in a peg.

Anyone have any experience with Tankless water heaters? Ours tank is 20 years old and we're thinking of going tankless.
