JFC, I just took a look at their team. They're 24-1-0, that must be some sort of record no? Ian Scott is 20-1-0 with a .945 sv% :stare:

They also have this kid Brett Leason who went undrafted last year, leads the team in scoring with 56 pts in 25 games, and has scored a point in every single game. Next closest scorer is Montgomery with 28 pts in 25 games. Leason only had 32 pts last year..surely some team will draft him this year? He's 6'4 to boot.

Best record in the dub at 24-1-0. The trick is Ian Scott is a goalie.

It's worth noting too that Prince Albert only became good this year. Last year they were the lowest ranked playoff team, in a league where 16/22 teams make the playoffs.

The year before that, Scott's draft year, they were 20th overall and only won 21 out of 72 games.

Almost like someone’s been reading our minds.

A Timmeth update: https://mapleleafshotstove.com/2018/11/ ... selection/

I think a couple of things need to be borne in mind when thinking about him. 1. He’s still so young, playing in a man’s league. 2. Despite the early hype, he was picked in the mid-1st and we should gauge his development accordingly. It’s pretty unusual for guys picked in that range to step right into the pros and make an impact.

There are a few other gifs that Papetti has posted of Sandin dumping guys in the corners. He is either deceptively strong or just knows how to use the size he has, either way he is beginning to look like the Leafs top prospect.

He's Swedish, they're all strong motherfuckers. Even Liljegren will lay guys out time to time.

Bracco is playing well, 23 pts in 26 games now. Looking like a Mitch Marner clone in these goals too

Bracco feels like the type of player that is destined to be used in a trade to upgrade the big team. He is a terrific prospect, but I just don't see where he fits on this team. He has to play in the top 6 and on the pp to be effective, and I just don't see who he is going to displace to make that happen.

Ennis can play fourth line minutes and contribute effectively to the team.

Why couldn’t Bracco play on PP2?

If Bracco is as talented as it appears then he can slide around the lineup in case of injuries but mainly do what Ennis is doing.

Depending on what happens on the next contracts with Kappy and Johnsson, we might need the Braccos and Grundstroms sooner rather than later.

He could play on the second unit, he just wont be taking his regular spot because Nylander is stationed there.

Ah, that's fair.

If Jake isn't coming back then perhaps we should try a forward back there. I'm not sure I believe in Dermott as a PP2 guy and I certainly don't think Zaitsev should be there. Sandin and Lilypad aren't going to be ready for next year in all likelihood. Having someone with the edges and vision Bracco has might be nice at the top of the umbrella, but it might make moving the puck to Willy a bit tough since they're booth righties.

There was a really good article on the Atthleric recently about SDA. Talked glowingly about his skill and creativity. Takeaway was that his skill isn’t translating to points right now for a couple reasons 1) ptbo sucks and he doesn’t have anyone to finish his plays, 2) he doesn’t shoot enough, 3) (more like 2b) he dekes or passes himself out of scoring chances. If he can be more selective in when to dance people then his numbers should improve.

He has alot of similarities to Bracco, and like Bracco will either need to add a step to his game or become far more assertive in winning puck battles and going to the net or he will top out as a pp specialist. Which is still very good for where we selected him, but hard to fit in on this roster.

PPP trade review. Tldr Gagné seems to be a younger Klimchuk. AHL all star last year, been buried on the 4th line this season.

It doesn’t really say how he’s like Klimchuk. Anyway, evidently he can skate and shoot, and you can’t teach 6’5”. Perhaps they can turn him into a big puck retrieval guy to compliment some of our skill guys.

I always have to remind myself how late to the game Goat was. Pretty sure he didn't start skating until he was 11 or something. He's head and shoulders better than in his draft years.

His skating looks almost like a strength now. When he’s going through the neutral zone with speed it’s tough to stop him. His hands look better this season too.

I really liked that line with Ennis or Moore instead of Brown.

His hands are better when he first broke into the NHL yes. But they're still not good at all. What I've been pleased by the most is Goats physicality. He used to be a big body that didn't really use it. Now he's starting to dig deep in corners and throwing his weight around a bit. Good to see. Not sure if he'll stick around long term, but any improvement is good.

That 4th line misses Ennis.

I think Brown is gone this summer. Too expensive for what he brings especially when Trevor Moore is only going to be making 750k for the next two years

If ever there was a hit that did not deserve a fight after, that is it. No charge, shoulder to chest, and the opponent had the puck on his stick. Necas gets destroyed on that in the NHL every time.

Cleaning up the AHL is the logical step into the evolution of the NPHL.

Clowe aint a growla anymo

Former NHL forward Ryan Clowe has stepped down as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs ECHL affiliate, the Newfoundland Growlers, the organization announced on Thursday.

Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas announced that Clowe is stepping away due to medical reasons. Clowe was the team's first ever head coach and compiled a record of 27-11-2 while behind the bench. The Maple Leafs said the 36-year-old would remain in the organization with a role to be determined.

“I’d like to thank the Toronto Maple Leafs for the opportunity to become the first head coach in Newfoundland Growlers history,” said Clowe. “As a St. John’s native, I was extremely honoured and proud to have held this position but my health is first priority for both my family and I.”

Clowe has missed time throughout the season for medical reasons. Although the details of the medical leave were never released, he did tell the St. John's Telegram it was related to concussion symptoms he had suffered through the course of his NHL career.

“I don’t want to get into it much, but yes, the symptoms from (previous concussions) were there. I don’t have a reason for it. It just happens," Clowe said. "It’s probably something I’ll have to deal with my whole life. It’s just how it is. But I still want to do things, and I want to live my life.”
