Why do the Canucks not play until Saturday, and then have three games in four nights?

Re: Set the tires alight! The 2016-17 season is smo(u)ldering
“I worried about that last year,” coach Willie Desjardins says. “For sure, I did. I think we put him in some situations that weren’t fair. A good player knows what you need.
“Just having (Brandon) Sutter back, puts (Horvat) in a better spot,” Desjardins says. “It takes the pressure off and lets him play more the way he can play.
“I think (penalty-killing) is his biggest strength. I think it should be his biggest strength. When he came through junior, he was a top defensive player. The part of the game that surprises us is the offensive side. We never knew we had that, really, that he was going to be that good offensively.
“He can be really good defensively and I think we have to, I have to, help him concentrate on that a little bit more and not concentrate on the scoring.”
http://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nh ... s-a-player
Once again, our management is totally clueless.
How can anyone think Horvat is a defensive center and Sutter is an offensive one?

management is gifted a surefire two-way centre and give him no opportunities to succeed by placing him on a line with derek dorsett
bo isn't great defensively yet but he has the ability. getting it out of him isn't solved by sinking him with dorsett, who is neither defensive nor offensive

Re: Set the tires alight! The 2016-17 season is smo(u)ldering
i actually agree with that. i agree with everything you said. and i'm tired of seeing such foolish things happen to our team. this is a great team. this is a great city. when i watch the deals being made, when i watch what's happening with horrible things like the sbisa extension or things like the recent forsling trade and how bad it is for us..
when I look at all of the things that I see and all of the potential that our team has, we have such tremendous potential, whether it’s down in utica or right here in the nhl, where we’re doing so badly. last year, we had almost $800 billion tied up in sbisa, dorsett and miller. it’s hard to believe. inconceivable.
you say, who's making these deals? we need new management. we need new ownership. we're going to make great deals. we're going to have a stronger team. we're going to be tougher to play against. just last game, dorsett lost a staged fight. and this is happening on a weekly basis. we have to bring back respect on the ice. at the same time, we have to take care of people on all sides. we need justice.
but I want to do things that haven’t been done, including fixing and making our inner cities better for the african-american citizens that are so great, and for the latinos, hispanics, and I look forward to doing it. it’s called make america great again.

They've looked like a decent team for 1 out of six periods and somehow are 2-0. So that's cool I guess?

Chris Levesque situation brewing as Miller is suddenly "injured". UBC's goalie to be the back-up for the day. Virtanen scratched for Skille.

I feel that this start was sort of taken into account by the predictions though... every home game against a softball they get now is one fewer home game and one fewer softball later. Considering they have three ties (because that is literally what they are) and a one-goal victory against a doubly shorthanded Buffalo team, I'm not quite revising my outlook yet.

To me, cheering for a last-place finish at the start of the season is losing all perspective.

I'd say it's actually not a terrible perspective if you're thinking they're unlikely to even make the playoffs.

I cheer for success until it's clear they can't make it, basically. I'm about to attend two games (in OTT and DET) and I'll certainly be cheering for a win.
I just don't think this start (3 ties and 1 victory) really means a whole lot.

Re: Set the tires alight! The 2016-17 season is smo(u)ldering
Yeah, it's probably the weakest 4-0 start in history considering all were 1 goal games, all were at home, 3 of the teams were awful and all but one of them came in gimmick-time.
Still, it's 8 points in the bank, and I can't bring myself to cheer for losses.
I have a feeling though that I'll be thoroughly checked out of this once the Sedins are gone. Besides them, I find so little to like about this organization right now.

I'm rather upset, I'm travelling to Vancouver in a week and arrive the day after they play Washington, and while I'm in Vancouver they're on a road trip and they play the Sens in Ottawa.

First loss is a shootout loss. I'll give the team credit, they are showing a lot of spirit.
Didn't Minnesota (???) have an outstanding start/first half a few years ago and were basically carried by that until the last month of the season? I'm picturing a similar situation.

The Canucks however don't have a goalie 50% as skilled as Price to blame the rest of season failures on however (assuming they regress to most people's expectations)

Considering they blamed last year's failures on Sutter's injury despite him being s complimentary player, if any injuries occur Benning and Linden will have a ready-made excuse.

Megna and Stetcher recalled. Apparently Tanev is hurt? Not sure what the corresponding move to git Megna is, though.

Burrows and Dorsett are both hurt.
That makes it 12 forwards and 8 defencemen on the roster. Not sure why they went with two spare defencemen and no spare forwards. Unless Tryamkin isn't an option and one of Burrows or Dorsett are back soon.

Pretty sure Tryamkin isn't an option at this point. I knew Burrows was hurt but don't think it'll be for an extended period of time. Didn't know it'll be about Dorsett.

lmao, our depth is so shitty we can't even handle injuries to our two worst forwards without resorting to playing D as F.
Wait til a Sedin or Horvat or somebody gets hurt ... holy shit.
Could a trade for Linden Vey be imminent?

Re: Set the tires alight! The 2016-17 season is smo(u)ldering
I've been to more NHL games than Yannick Tremblay and that was the most boring game I've ever been to. Not worst but boring.
Sedins look slow. Gudbranson is glass and out on every single play. Offense, apart from the Sedins and Hansen, is only generated by individual efforts instead of set plays or effectively using linemates. Just a terrible looking team. At this point it looks like they could set a modern NHL record for lowest goals scored.

Officially under .500 and winless in 6 straight. Looks like this team will never score a meaningful goal for the rest of the season.

we've had a lead for 28 minutes out of 600+ minutes of hockey.
we've been shutout 3 times already.
Our 36MM forward has 0 goals through 10 games.
I mean ... amazing.
