Jobs For Teenagers
I was a teenager once. I worked a lot. Extra money, you see. Five dollars a week for allowance did not cut it for my needs as a blossoming youth. Starting at the age of 12 these are some of the jobs I remember holding:
Milk boy (door-to-door delivery before school)
grass cutter
snow shoveler
weed picker
full-service gas station attendant (voted best gas station in (_____l___a___, BC)
hotel room cleaner (banfffff)
customer service rep (ski hill, kelowna)
tree sorter
golf ball picker
farm planter
hay bailer
grounds keeper/tree pruner (experimental farm, A______, BC)
nursery worker with hybrid roses
I am proud to say I worked very hard in each and every job and that I never worked in retail or the fast food industry.
edit: I am an outdoor manual labour sort of cockfag.

in the kitchen at a red lobster;
in a data treatment center for a bank;
as a security guard;
as a guard in a detention center;
as a research assistant and whatnot for various professors.

It was pretty easy to get jerbs back in the day, tho. I think teens/students have it harder today.

Breaking the rules on the second post of a thread is pretty disgusting online behaviour, chien.

Re: Jobs For Teenagers
I worked as a cold caller in a stock firm on Long Island with real boiler room fellas. A man "Clay" was the basis for Vin Diesel's character in Boiler Room the movie. He lost $12 million in 2008 but acted like it was nothing compared to guys wanting to kill themselves over a fraction of that amount. Drove an old Chevy pick up truck to work every day, never flashy. I liked him. They had me actually closing deals on the phone using the name of one of the licensed brokers. The Boeing guys were always easy closes they had no problems giving that social up. The place was drug infested, not the best environment for a teen but I got my series 7 and 63 anyways. Before that I worked vacuuming pools in the Hamptons. I was the stereotypical pool boy.

Were you actually under 20 at the time? That seems to be a requirement for some RIDICULOUS reason. Gawd!

Re: Jobs For Teenagers
I was 19 when I finally took the tests. The 7 was pretty hard. I locked myself inside all summer to study. I looked like Casper the Ghost. I started when I was 16, I knew one of the main bosses, he took me under his wing a bit and was real flexible with my hours for school. I would usually call the west coast after school since you had that 3 hour time difference. I got sick of the place and left. Brokers on steroids, xanax and all that terrible stuff. Its a toxic environment.

Corn detassler
Lawn cutter
Dishwasher==>Chef's Assistant / Bus boy / Buffet attendant / Occasional wait staff
Pooper scooper / animal feeder at vet clinic
Factory worker
Stomper of seismic measurement equipment for oil exploration company
Telemarketer
After that it was mostly office type work, but then I was no longer a teen.

Re: Jobs For Teenagers
I don't understand why you guys in Canada didn't just bag up a bunch of BC Bud and sell it like a rebel. Shit, I would cross over into New York and get rid of it and drive back with cash if I could as a teen.
I did telemarketing for a Chimney company for a few months too. How exciting can you make that sound? It was actually pretty difficult to get even free estimates out. I also did the usual teen jobs like mowing lawns, leaf clean ups, snow plow.

That's my whole point though, it's easy, quick money so you don't have to pick up dog shit.

Re: Jobs For Teenagers
Ken and I went cross country with another guy in 75. we took the train, our Dads were CN employees so we travelled free. We made some stops, saw some of the country and ended up in Vancouver. The other guy who had a brother who made moved out there . He needed his souse painted and had acquired a bunch of Olympic 76- promotional stuff. T-shirts, I can't remember what else. The idea was to se us up in kiosks in strategic touristy areas. We were about finished doing the house, had done some mall weekend sales, but things were moving slowly. Our pal's RCMP graduation was coming up so Ken and I headed to Regina to attend.Dog wrote:mcphee wrote:Sold Olympic gear in a shopping mall in Vancouver in 1975,while the right to sell on the ferries was being negotiated. Afterwards, we called our guy and he hadn't confirmed some licensing details yet, it sounded like it would take a while, so we hitched a ride to Mtl with our recently graduated Mountie friend. The Olympic deal fell through so I caught on at Northern Packers, flipping sides of beef around. The guy that stayed in BC just contacted me recently, hadn't heard from him in 35 years.

did you have the merchandise laid out on a large cover on the floor that you could fold in an instant and run away with if the cops came around?

I think everything was lawful. Trademark and rights holding law wasn't as strict then, but I don't remember it coming up. I honestly don't know how he cam to be involved in this, he was involved in soccer, coached, joined associations, I'd bet that he met someone when buying jerseys that had this line of product made and wanted someone to handle the sales.
