I won't be satisfied until the Sens return to the 1997-98 uniforms.

No hockey or sports experience but at least she lives in Barbados.
A reminder of what happened with the last Chief Marketing Officer:

How do you not have a long term deal done with Stone. He missed some games, he hasn't put up 100 points yet, this should be a fairly easy deal to do on a 5-6 year deal. Just pay the man, he shows up every game.
Especially with Karlsson potentially gone, how do you not sew up one deal that becomes really important of Karlsson is gone. What a mess.

Because he asked for a trade last summer. I can’t imagine he feels any different this summer now that he has leverage.

Dead last in rankings of front office confidence by the league and fans. Not surprising, but pretty sad that once upon a time we we would have been near the top.
“Hard to get a sense of the true front office potential when Eugene is around, but while his marching orders are being carried out, very few fans will have any trust in this group.”
Last place should come as absolutely no surprise considering the turmoil that has surrounded the franchise this past year, just a single season removed from a conference final berth. It’s been a mess and it starts at the very top with many fans expressing contempt, specifically for owner Eugene Melnyk and his role in this disaster. The Matt Duchene trade blew up in the team’s face in spectacular fashion, they bungled the Mike Hoffman trade, and another trade involving Erik Karlsson, their franchise cornerstone that no longer wants to be there, looms large. No one has much confidence the Senators will be on the winning side of that one either. Over 95 per cent of fans and the public alike have less confidence in the team now than previously, and the only staggering thing about that number is that it’s not unanimous.

It's been a weird market over the last few years. While it's definitely a low-ball, $9M seems high. He's 26 and he hasn't broken 70 points.
I'm a fan, I love Mark Stone and he's so much more than points but that's a high amount for 1 year to UFA and it's a risk for a longterm contract for a guy who can't skate that well.
I wonder what our longterm deal offers were and what he was looking for.

Yeah people aren't going to forget an angry rant threatening to relocate the team on a day meant to celebrate Ottawa, hockey and the team.

Stone signed for one year, 7.35 Million.
Can't negotiate an extension until January 1st.

So, how do the Senators reach the cap floor when they lose Karlsson, Duchene, and Stone to UFA next summer?

So the team that opted in to long-term contracts for Bobby Ryan and Dion Phaneuf, now has Karlsson, Duchene and Stone all primed to leave as UFAs. What planning.

What's the worst trade in NHL history so far?
Because paying a premium for Duchene, only to lose him a year later at the deadline for pennies on the dollar might be the new favorite if the Sens are forced to trade Karlsson, Stone and Ceci at the deadline and win the lottery.

Only comparison I can think of for Ottawa is maybe Leeds United... This seems special.

Yashin for Spezza and Chara? The Tom Kurvers deal, which turned into Scott Niedermayer? Luongo and Jokinen for Parrish and Kvasha, to allow Milbury to take Dipietro over Gaborik or Heatley?
Kessel comes to mind, but the Leafs at least got several years of Kessel.
A lot of the other deals involved players forcing teams into tough spots - Eric Lindros being the prime example. That may be the Karlsson deal, but Duchene was entirely unnecessary and purely the result of idiotic management. It's hard to imagine Dorion ever getting another GM job after he's done in Ottawa.

This is the beginning of a fascinating article. But there is a paywall. Anybody want to stick it to big bad fake media and repost it?

My first thought was Doug Gilmour for Gary Leeman circa 1991. I know Gilmour wanted a trade however given the number of players involved Calgary likely thought they'd still be ahead of the game. Looking back on it, it was the trade that closed their cup window.

Re: Summer Recess 2: The Search for Curly's Gold
I'll withhold judgment on the Tkachuk signing until we see how they handle him in training camp. I'm sure he can be useful in the NHL this year, but like Formenton, I wouldn't want to waste him in a depth role when he clearly could further develop his offensive game. The risk of course is that Dorion, eager for a good news character story, rushes him. Boucher's conservatism could help us, although some kids are going to have to play considering we probably only have two legit top six forwards at this point, three if you're generous to Bobby.
My preference would be for Tkachuk to light it up in London for a year, and let him roll into a roster spot next year. I'd keep him the hell away from Belleville considering how poor they've been under Randy Lee, and I don't think a year shuttling up and down like White last year is best for him. With Bouchard, Boqvist, Tkachuk, Formenton and Foudy, London would be a great place for him to play with pace and creativity.

Oduya said some stuff about the Senators in a Swedish interview:
Don't worry though, the consensus from the TEAM1200 today is that Oduya played bad last season so everything he says about the Senators is a lie.

Probably did. I think he means other organizations have a better track record of structure thus ensuring that something like that would have been nipped in the bud earlier.

Basically, it means we don't have a lifetime hockey man like Bryan Murray anymore... Heck, we don't have any front office, so I'm hardly surprised at Oduya's comment.

I wonder how, as the front office, they've diagnosed the dressing room issues. Just as a matter of sequence, Oduya implies the fundamental issues were visible in his time in the room, but the Karlsson-Hoffman issues came later. Hoffman may have been the scapegoat, but what other steps have been taken.
Whatever he means by stability, seven coaches in ten years is not it. Before it became clear how incompetent our front office was, this regime - broadly defined - has never been able to sort out coaching, and too many of our better seasons in the past decade can be attributed to that boost teams often get under a new coach, none of which have delivered sustained success.

More like I doubt he'd work for Melnyk, but you gotta think the Duchene trade has likely tied Dorion's noose. So whoever they hire will be next GM. And being the GM to Dubas' provincial rival might be tempting to Hunter.

Can't imagine he'd leave as AGM of an emerging franchise only to sign up for the same role in our dumpster fire. He wants to be GM, and not only do we not know what Dorion would have to do to get fired, but it's hard to imagine any competent candidates ever wanting to replace him under Melnyk. Probably has his eyes on Seattle.
Warren Rychel wouldn't surprise me though.

Stop getting your hopes up for someone from the outside, the Senators have not made an outside hire to the front office since Brent Flahr was hired to be Director of Hockey Operations in 2007 (when Flahr left in 2009, the Senators promoted Randy Lee to replace him; when Lee was promoted to AGM in 2014, the director of hockey ops job stayed empty).

A couple guys like Burzan and Lynch are hold-overs from development camp, so it wouldn't be surprising if a couple contracts come out of this. Stallard was a somewhat surprise non-sign before the draft too.
Other than Wolanin and Jaros, that's a brutal group of d-men. A bit surprised they didn't sign Summers, considering he was a good college player and a local kid.

The Senators hired three scouts.
But don't get too optimistic about the franchise, rumour is that the TEAM1200's token Leaf fan, Shawn Simpson, is a front runner for AGM.

I wonder if Vegas landing Pacioretty, has made them less interested in Karlsson. Suddenly Vegas has a lot less cap space.

Re: Summer Recess 2: The Search for Curly's Gold
So this is really weird:
I would have the thought the time for a rebuilding plan would be the start of the offseason, not the end, but I guess Melnyk is the expert.
