Lethbridge, SK... WY? AB

Post #1 by The Bytown Boozer » Fri May 11, 2018 3:32 am

Perhaps the worst place on Earth alongside Thunder Bay and Cornwall.

Honourable mention to Guelph, ON and all that...

The topic at hand today is: what is the worst Canadian town? I'll make a poll eventually I guess.

Bonus point to the first person who mentions Quebec City and its surroundings.

Guelph and Quebec City are among the nicest.

St. Catherines is trash. Esepcially considering how nice everything surrounding it is. All told, I think Corner Brook is the worst place I've been in the country.

I couldn't tell you the difference between Lac Megantic and a hole in the ground.

If anything, the explosion helped Lac Megantic.

Oh, I forgot about Fort Erie. The Buffalo side of the border is actually nicer.

Niagara Falls is essentially hell on earth too.

Portage La Prairie was awful until Bonanza closed down out by the shopping mall on the Trans Canada and made it even worse.

wait, i've also been to north bay and the native areas north of peterborough. i guess i'll place them in the list and take away the shitty quebec towns and residential toronto. though north of peterborough isn't really much different than the shitty quebec towns.

I'm thinking this needs to be divided into groups based on population, cause a shitty town like Trenton, can't be compared to a city like Winnipeg or to small town like Chapleau.

You've never been to Niagara Falls or a town in Quebec on the St. Lawrence east of Quebec City? For the record, the latter is a very pleasant part of the country. Just don't go more than about 5 kilometers from the St Lawrence until you hit Gaspe, and even then only go South.

nope. well, i think i went to niagara as a toddler (don't remember) and once took the wrong exist heading out of Quebec city and went east for a few kms. i'd like to visit gaspesie one of these days, but wife is not interested. you sorta have limited time and these places are never next in line as travel destinations.

albeit, there is something quaint about shitty towns. maybe that will be the new yuppie/hipster travel craze.

D, we need to get ahead of the curve and start selling authentic shitty town bus tours! what could be more quaint than a shitty bus tour of a shitty town? it's perfect!

The towns on the St-Lawrence east from Quebec City to Rimouski are all beautiful picturesque little places with, like, pristine water access, rolling hills with great views, artisanal cheesemakers and cider and stuff like that.

Seriously. I think the towns on the St-Lawrence west of Quebec city (until you get to Montreal) are all shitholes that were into heavy industry in the 1950s and now are probably dying a (too) slow death.

I’ve been to those! They’re horrible! I’d add places like Thetford Mines and Rawdon and whatnot. Fantastic horrible places!

Literally every town on the south shore of the Saint Laurence from (and including especially) Cornwall to the edge of Quebec City is a huge shithole.

I suppose you can exclude, like, maybe, Saint-Lambert, Saint-Bruno and Beloeil.

I guess technically speaking, Cornwall is on the north shore.

Meh.. whatever.

You can pretty much cary that to the Eastern boundary of Kingston. Brockville has nice aspects, but it's a shell of its former self. Otherwise that whole coast is garbage, though there is some nice rural living along there.

I guess what I'm saying really is that the two places where mcphee has lived most are absolutely terrible.
