The Magical 80's and mid 1990's

Post #1 by shredz » Sun Jun 03, 2018 7:30 pm

What was it like? I was born in 1988 and find in retrospect the 1980's to be a fairly good time to be a kid in America. The 90's and 2000's slided towards turmoil and confusion culturally with violence rising.

60s and 70s were cogs in the overall music machine. No denying that but AD is saying it reached its peak and fell. That's true.

Why do we focus so much on Seattle grunge at the mid 90s when we had great people like Jon Secada and Seal

The 80s were a terrible musical generation. Like actually the worst.

Also, in general, the experience as a kid in this era wasn't so different from others. Terrorism wasn't a huge deal, but gang violence and the war on drugs were. Every generation thinks theirs I full of turmoil. For violence in particular, your perception is way off. The 90s actually ushered in a golden era of low violent crime rates we continue to enjoy. Violent crime peaked at 758 per 100k people in 91, then dropped steadily to 361 in 14.

Two of my favorite things from the 80s are cyberpunk and practical horror/action film effects. A very trashy dionysian decade, at least in the West.

This I am on board with. Some good books were written in the 80s.

Let’s rank decades in a totally futile exercise!

1920s
1990s
1950s
1960s
1980s
2000s
1970s
1930s
1940s

Our technology has not developed a transmitter strong enough to reach your conscious state of awareness, but this is not a dream. You are seeing what is actually occurring for the purpose of causality violation."
