Durzi played for Owen Sound in the preseason yesterday: http://ontariohockeyleague.com/gamecent ... 4/boxscore

Not big on that. He already had 1.23 PPG last year. Hopefully he's just there before Leaf camp opens, though I don't recall anyone ever playing preseason games in junior before going to an NHL camp.

Mirtle back with the cryptic Tweet. Last time he dropped something like this was night before Tavares signed. Wonder if Nylander signing comes out tomorrow? It seems like Mirtle has more insider info especially now that Lou is gone. Maybe even extensions for Matthews / Marner?

It’clearly a Nylander for Tanev trade.

Mirtle "The Athletic is now 50% cheaper!!"

By fun I hope he means joyous. Rather than him having fun watching the internet burn.

I'm not a big fan either, but it is pretty crowded on that Marlies blueline right now (Liljegren, Borgman, Rosen, Marincin, Loverde, Ozhighanov, Subban, Holl, Nielsen, Lindgren). If he isn't going to supplant at least 3 of those guys it probably makes the most sense to start him in juniors.

So The Athletic hired DownGoesBrown and Botchford (Canucks dude who writes 'The Provies' or whatever). Probably what Mirtle was referring to I guess. Baited

Polar opposites between him and Lou Lam in regards to media/interviews.
Lou rarely does stuff aside from post-trade discussion/draft. Dubas does a detailed interview for almost an hour.

Anyway, its a good watch/listen. He's a very articulate young man.

SDA with the first goal. He fanned on an open back door tap in but he got enough of it .
Marchment started it by stepping up his physical/jam game and hunting for pucks.

Plouffe goal. Play broken up by Sandin (who's had a good game), rushes up the left side and dishes it to the slot. Bounces around a bit before Plouffe gets a handle on it.

The Brooks/Grund/Bracco unit has had 2 solid PP opportunities. Grund got 2 fabulous looks in the slot but just can't bury it.

Overall it's been an ugly game entertainment wise. Pucks are bouncing (worse than ACC). Players are fanning on nearly every cross slot pass/shot attempt.

After a relatively quiet first 2 periods, there's been 4 goals (2 for each team) in the last 10min.

First was a patented babcack shot/tip. Lil was handling the point, dished it off to Ferguson? on the left side, JJ pIch with the tip near the net.

Second had the best pass of the day. Bracco above the right faceoff dot, over to Grundstrom on the far side for the goal. He was due.

Brooksy gets the PP goal with ~30 seconds to go in the 3rd to break the tie. Bracco handling the left side, dishes it off to Neilsen at the point for the shot. Brooks finds the rebound through traffic and stuffs her home.

Batherson ties it back up within 10 seconds...with a shot from the left side of the goal line. Goalie wasn't prepared after the initial shot.

First shift of OT Lil has a nice rush around a Dman and his shot goes off the crossbar and post. Puck comes back towards leafs end. It's a 2 on 0. Game. Blouses.

Was a messy game, that said I liked Sandin, Lil, SDA, Bracco, Grundstrom, Brooks, Marchement.
Everyone else might have had a good shift or two, like Durzi, but nobody was consistent. As is the case most of the time with these prospect games.

Someone else is on the clock for tomorrow. I'll be watching footbawl.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Habs prospects are garbage so they start gooning it up and go after Bracco.

If Bracco ever improves his skating he will be a top 6 forward. His on ice awareness with the puck on his stick is special, it kind of reminds me of Wellwood.

Sandin and Liljegren have been great fun to watch.
Sandin is so calm and cool in relation to his twoway game. Has approached and executed plays like a computer.
Liljegren has more offensive potential without a doubt, but in these rookie games he's dangled/toe-dragged too much. One moment he'll create a turnover. The other he almost finished the game beating a dman 1on1.

There is concern that Matthews didn't get an 'A'

it is the dumbest shit ever. We need a d-man with an 'A', hence Rielly

We have JT who has been a captain for almost a decade in the NHL. obviously gets an 'A'.

We have Marleau who is a 38 years old vet of >1600 games and who has also been a captain. You don't give an 'A' to a 20 year old kid. Marleau started playing in the NHL the year Matthews was fucking born!

Just let the kid play hockey and score 45. JT can bitch at the refs just fine. Some folks are always in a rush.

Media has nothing else to bitch about so this is the hill they will die on. First it was Dubas vs Hunter/Lou, then it was trying to pretend Toronto wasn't a legitimate favourite for JT and that he was headed to SJ. Of course Leafs killed 2 media birds with one stone once Dubas signed JT.

I am sure they will try to continue with the bad defense narrative but just a matter of time before that gets debunked too.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either but IMO this is Matthews’ team. He’s the face of the rebuild and giving it to him will avoid media storms in the future if Tavares is captain and Matthews outplays him (you just know they will be all over that).

There will be a media frenzy regardless of who they give it too. Even if Matthews get it and outplays JT people will question who the real leader is in the locker-room. As long as the person they choose is agreed upon by the players and coaching staff I genuinely DGAF who it is.

Educated guess:
Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Leivo - Kadri - Brown
Grundstrom - Mueller - Moore
Timashov - SDA - Cracknell
Clark

Rielly - Hainsey
Dermott - Holl
Borgman - Subban

Sparks/McElhinney

A little bit more than 24 hours till we see Johnny T in a Leafs uniform

I believe Nielsen and Ozighanov are also suiting up. Expect Dermott to play with O-Zone
