Boqvist
Bokk
Rodrigue
Skarek
Koskinen
Shumakov
Maksimov

I should get a player out of Boqvist or Bokk. Then just a bunch of lottery tickets.

1st round, 6th overall - Brady Tkachuk

The Sens are more or less his team now, looking like he's going to make the jump to the NHL right away.

4th Round, 51st overall - Dustin Brown

Here's hoping Kovalchuk pumps up his offensive numbers.

5th round, 62nd overall - Thomas Vanek

25-25-50 guy, might catch fire with the Wings again, Zadina-Athanasiou-Vanek is good tinder at least.

5th round, 66th overall - Serron Noel

Power forward who fell out of mid-1st round projections to 34th overall pick by Florida, big and fast.

6th round, 81st overall - Justus Annunen

Total shot in the dark, but big Finnish goalies are worth throwing a dart at the board.

7th round, 96th overall - Jesse Ylonen

Future captain of the Montreal Canadiens, the sky is the limit. Enigmatic but will grow out of that hopefully.

7th: Kotkaniemi. Meh, glad I wasn't stuck with Tkachuk.
17th: Hayton. Nice to get a top 5 pick that late, even if it was a stupid top 5 pick.
22nd: Bailey. I needed a productive forward and he's on a decent contract. Risky that he might not produce the same next year, but it's all I could hope for in the 20s.
37: Schmidt. If he comes back from suspension like he was last year, he's a steal.
40: Johnson. Gotta get goalies somewhere.
58: Kuemper. This draft would have sucked, picking depth scrubs like this, if I didn't already land two top 5 picks.
67: Demelo. The idea here is he's cheap as fuck and might put up a few points. I like getting D's like this, it lets me spend more on forwards.
82: O'Brien. Went 19th in the draft. Don't know much about him, other than he took a strange path to the draft by staying in highschool. Still, if a team took him at 19, getting him at 82 after plugging the holes in my roster is pretty neat.
97: Groulx. Meh, seemed like the best prospect left. I'll probably drop him if my team is ever healthy or some other prospect looks promising or something.

All in all I'm kinda meh on it. I got a couple more good prospects and filled some holes. I wish my goaltending didn't suck so I wouldn't have to go dumpster diving for backups in the draft like that.

Zadina, McLeod, Lundqvist and 2 future 1sts.

I really wanted Svechnikov but wasn't able to grab him. Focused on next year's draft.

Svechnikov - Best offensive prospect in the draft, think he'll get 60 points this year. A scouting buddy of mine thinks he's actually 2 years older than he says he is but still thinks it doesn't matter, he's that good.
Raanta - Traded back into the 1st to get the best goalie available on a decent contract. Solved a potential goalie issue for next year.
Kovalchuk - Could be a bad pick, could be a great pick. He's old, but he's a natural goal scorer who will play on the Kings first line and I needed another Russian to help Svechnikov acclimate.
Foudy - Can never have enough prospects with high offensive potential. Could make the Blue Jackets right away.
Bjugstad - Needed another center, also wing elligible. Contract isn't awful and he's skilled enough to produce. Had his best season as a pro last season.
Wilde - He fell in the real draft and in this draft as well. Boom or bust, tons of offensive talent but could have some character issues holding him back.

I would imagine that's why he's an assistant GM & director of scouting for a USHL team and does some NHL Central Scouting stuff on the side.

I've also known some scouts, including one who currently works for the Maple Leafs. Most of them are hardly geniuses.

And the idea that it "doesn't matter" that a guy might be two years older is absurd. Of course it matters. Two years is a massive difference at this stage of development.

You're not wrong on the general intelligence level of the hockey ops world.

Regardless, Svechnikov is still that good so for the purposes of this league it's a no brainer.

Although, if your buddy is correct on two years older you're looking at a 3rd liner at best...

I thought you left the business because they caught you jerking off Belarussian stick boys behind the bus for $200 a pop and then buying all their sticks for $400 and selling them back to them for $6,000, which was a very shrewd tactic, but career-ending?
