Farabee was suspended for three games. Just what in the fuck? What an absolute joke.

Yeah that is a brutal overreaction for a first time offender. Boroweicki 0 games, Tkachuk 0 games. Malkin got 1 game for swinging his stick at Raffl as a repeat offender.

What forwards do we have left? Hopefully one of the injured guys is back soon

Looks like Konecny might play tonight? He skated with Giroux and Couturier at the morning skate.

At least a good win against the Ducks. Also funny to see Kase pick up his first NHL goal in a game against his brother.

So, trusting Murray to burn your team to the ground, and then rebuild it around one player... probably not the best idea.

This feels really satisfying. Particularly the Niskanen and Pitlick goals were crazy. Too bad the shutout didn't hold, but yeah, "Home is where the Hart is" I saw from the Flyers marketing department and that is a great slogan, because Hart has been insane at home. Even more so if you disregard the Prague game which is technically a "home" game for the Flyers.

Currently debating with myself if I want to get up tonight to watch the game and what possibly could be a shit show. Question is how much of a shit show can it be with Laughton being out.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep. There are 82 games in a season, and two major players (and one minor) are out indefinitely with injuries. Sucks for the Flyers, but to me the season becomes less interesting if Patrick and Lindblom are both on the LTIR.

Followed the advice and didn't lose any sleep. Seems like it was the correct decision as there were apparently no real extracurricular activities involved (other than Borowiecki being a POS, as we all knew). From the highlights it looked like a pretty good game nonetheless, though I definitely didn't like the three or four chances they gave up short-handed, or surrendering a two-goal lead. They did appear to dominate the OT though, completely wrecking the depleted Ottawa defense multiple times by just skating by them. It was almost comical that they couldn't find the net off of one of those chances. Still wont he shootout and two points, which is good.

So...

1) great win, love sticking it to the Rangers.

2) the NBCSN announcer was the most clueless dude I've ever heard. The lady had to swallow her tongue so many times when he had no idea if it was offsides or a penalty. Kudos to her professional abilities.

3) their commitment to playing up the proximity of the Flyers/Rangers in the standings was comical. Guys, the Rangers are trying to keep up, not competing right now.

Watched the highlights just now. Looked like a goaltending duel until the third where the Flyers, and Hayes in particular, pulled the game away from the Rangers. First a Snipe by Hayes and the second goal was a glorious dangle. Still Kudos to Lundqvist. Coots should have also outright beaten him on his dangle, and the only reason it didn't was because Lundqvist is possibly the best goaltender of the last decade. Good that the Flyers still recovered the puck and managed to put the puck in the net then. And nice for NAK to pick up his 1st.

I didn't see it, but how the hell is it even possible to make that argument. I guess if you solely look at the division, yesterday only Columbus was in between the teams, but the Flyers still were 7 points ahead of the Rangers (now 9). Even weirder if you look at the NHL overall standings were the Flyers were 8th yesterday (now 6th) and the Rangers were like 23rd.

West coast trips are usually good opportunities for me to watch some Flyers games. Unfortunately I of course have fallen sick during my christmas vacation so I've opted not to get up and rather sleep through and watch the highlight packages instead. Apparently that was a good thing with the shit-show against the Sharks :X

Against Anaheim it looked like a much better game. Should have really won it in regulation but Gibson was basically the only reason Anaheim survived into OT.

Not a massively important question, but very curious why it's taken so long for NAK to get a look. He's not going to be a scorer, but seems like he has a lot of energy and drives play.

Sanheim trying to play without a stick there highlighted my biggest pet peeve with hockey players. All he did was screen his own goalie. Just spend the five seconds going to the corner to get your stick and you're useful again!

Saw the 9-minute summary. Looked like a pretty decent game. Always good to beat the Caps. The shorty by Hayes was nice. Aube-Kubel also has been looking good so far from what I've been able to see, and it makes me really wonder why it took so long for him to get his shot. Also, this team is fucking great at home. Why can't it be at least halfway as good on the road?

A typical day in the life of a Flyers' fan includes but is not limited to:

1. Shutout by backup goaltender
2. Scored on by former Flyer
3. Annihilated in an afternoon game
4. Debilitating injury (or fatality) involving top prospect or star player

Anything else missing here?

Just the overarching sense of mediocrity that looms over everything.

The recent road trip didn't help, but we're back to being bottom-5 in ES save percentage for the season. Tough to make the playoffs with that. It's weird, I've been a pretty passionate fan since the mid-90s, but it's getting increasingly easy to miss games. We all know that they'll finish somewhere between 6th and 10th in the conference and if they make the postseason, they'll be knocked out in the 1st round, right?

Well, this was a greasy win. Hart did not look particularly good tonight, but Halak let several flubs in as well. And Marchand fucking up in the shootout was hilarious. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy.

The other way to look at it is that we beat Washington and Boston, lost 1-0 to Tampa this week. We just need to stay away from the west coast and this team could really use the all star break.

Hart out 2-3 weeks with abdominal strain, Stewart on waivers, Farabee loaned to the phantoms.

At least the all-star break is coming up, need Elliot and the team to play well with Hart out. Not sure I agree with Farabee being sent down but at least Stewart is finally waived. Maybe Farabee will come back up once Stewart gets reassigned.

Flyers met met four of the five best teams in the NHL in the last 8 days, and went 3-1 in that stretch. Two of those wins were in OT/SO, but this is quite a decent result overall. The thing though is that we are playing the fifth team of the top five right before and right after the All-Star break, which would be particularly sweet to win as that team is the goddamn Pens.

Hart being out sucks, but at least this also includes the all-star break that eats a bit of time without any meaningful games.

Voracek has been producing well lately that OT goal was nice. Giroux is pretty cold though, I wonder if he's just not as well rested now that he has a young baby. I saw him and Therrien arguing after the 2nd period too, really wish he wasn't out PP coach.

Yeah, whenever they score a PP goal it's a complete shocker, PP looks toothless most of the time.

Last few games really show why they've been so cautious with Myers. It seems like he's too good for the AHL, but he's definitely not ready for top-4 NHL minutes. Unfortunately the best solution might be just for him to play through it and learn the ropes, I'm not sure if dominating the AHL more is really going to help him develop further.

There's nothing wrong with playing your promising young defender play in a sheltered, bottom-six role. If they progress, you can bump up their responsibilities, and see how they respond. If they flounder or stagnate, you can cut ties or buy on the cheap (rather than overspend on the market for someone like Franson). But it's the best way to bring them along if they don't have the acumen of someone like Provorov.

Well, it starts with retaining salary on Gudas, and continues with having the buyouts of MacDonald and Schlemko (seriously, this is a real person being paid by the Flyers) stuck on the books.

Farabee up, Stewart down. So it was just temporary until Stewart cleared waivers.

Stewart has also been a waste of cap space of course. Gudas, MacD, Schlemko and Stewart cost us like 4 million dollars... Though I am glad that MacD Is bound ght out and not still somehow playing top 4 minutes for us. His buy out cap hit goes up next year though.

Our RFAs to sign next year a little unclear right now with Patrick and Lindblom uncertainty but Myers/Hagg/Braun are also up.

The fact that they didn't lay an egg in this game is pretty shocking, maybe a tad fortunate in spots, but playing a team like the Pens pretty even and coming out with a win is a great way to go into the break.

I really wanted to get up for this one, but I got home much later than I wanted last evening and thought better of it since I have to work late today too. Saw the highlights. Very happy that they won. Even happier about the shutout. I just hope they repeat this in a week and a half and not come out flat after a long break, as they usually do.

Apparently reddit and twitter is over Voracek for supposedly throwing a knee-on-knee hit. To me it kind of looks like he skate into a rut on the ice with his leg making a sudden jerk to the right. Judge for yourself.
